There’s a special feeling when you first experience a thing you will grow to really love. Imagine the first time you played your favorite video game, listened to your favorite album, or marathoned an awesome TV show on Netflix. There’s an electric, exciting feeling. This is awesome! What will happen next? Is there a sequel to this game? More albums by this artist? Another season of this show? In the 1960s, that was the entire world’s experience with rock music. The ’50s showed us what was possible, but the ’60s are where rock really came into its own. This week, we celebrate the inception of rock as we know it today with eleven songs from rock’s so-called “Golden Age”.
Before we talk about the songs, major props to ws54 for masterminding this pack. It started as an 8-song psychedelic rock pack, and inspired farottone, clintilona, drummerockband, columbo777, and AddyMilldike to kick in and make it the badass selection of tracks you see today.
Why should you download these tracks?

  • “Baby Blue” – Yeah, bitch! Even if you only download this song because of Breaking Bad, ws54 says you’ll still be experiencing one of the best songs ever made.
  • “Laugh Laugh” – Did you know this band performed this song on The Flintstones? ws54 says this is a classic oldie, up there with The Zombies’ “She’s Not There” (available as official DLC).
  • “Hurdy Gurdy Man” – Don’t let this song’s awesomely chill psychedelic vocals fool you; it has a killer guitar solo and tons of fun drum fills.
  • “Listen People” – This poppy track was a hit in the US when it was released. Herman’s Hermits is still touring! To quote frontman Peter Noone, “As long as Mick Jagger is still touring, I can too!”
  • “Long Cool Woman” – Downloading this will let you finally decipher what the hell the indecipherable lyrics are.
  • “Do You Believe in Magic” – Well, do you? If your feet don’t start tapping when you listen to this, please make sure you have a pulse.
  • “Summer in the City” – This song, one of Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest of all time, has a very different sound than “Do You Believe in Magic”, but its keys hook and chorus might be even catchier.
  • “Kicks” – According to ws54, this song started the whole pack, which originally had a “say no to drugs” theme. This high-energy number will be stuck in your head all day.
  • “Venus” – Everyone has heard this song, or at least the Bananarama cover. An excellent karaoke selection.
  • “Crimson and Clover” – This track also captures the essence of this pack exceptionally well. Did we mention that every band this week is new to Rock Band?
  • “Wild Thing” – This song, another of Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest, makes everything groovy. ws54 expects this to be the most downloaded song of the week; don’t disappoint him!

Recently uploaded fixes to previous C3 releases include:

  • Neil Diamond – “Love on the Rocks”: Many fixes; v1 was an older development version
  • Pink Floyd – “Dogs”: Heavily revised Pro Keys chart, added a missing tom marker
  • Static-X – “Love Dump”: Added some missing hi-hats
  • All of the passworded RAR files from GHtoRB3 should now be de-passworded

Finally, we’ve got 23 brand-new upgrades to first-party Rock Band content, courtesy of GreenPanda12, espher, and sageamagoo! This week is Dave Grohl Band time, with harmony upgrades that include The Colour and the Shape and Foo Fighters 02, along with Foreigner 01, Franz Ferdinand 01, the Flight of the Conchords songs, and more! 1. Oh hell yessssss!!!! So much goodness here, brain is on overload. I must step away and breathe for a moment. THANK YOU custom gods, I am truly not worthy (yet I shall download them all anyway).

  2. I love this weeks batch of songs so much I started downloading them before I even finished reading the list. Then I finished reading the list. My favorite release so far. Thanks guys!

  3. Awesome pack this week, my kind of music, I’m sure I will get to know the few I don’t know soon! Really excited to play Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress). Thanks!

  4. Holy shit! This right here is what I’m talking about! All of these songs are so awesome! You guys listened finally. I’m so tired of that Beatles and Linkin Park crap. So I’m glad you guys finally came to your senses and released some good songs. I’m downloading everything!

  5. Amazing selection of classics 🙂 looking forward now to play them tonight… Downloading now….:D Thank you so much Authors really great songs and have a nice weekend..

  6. Just in case people didn’t know Hurdy Gurdy Man has Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham listed in the credits as session players for the song. The song also originally had a verse by George Harrison which was cut from the song due to timing from it being a choice between that or the Guitar solo. Also Donovan originally hoped that Jimi Hendrix would play the song, but there was scheduling issues.

    1. By the way, fantastic selection this week. Baby Blue was my first attempt at a custom, charting V and G. I’m proud of it, but just seeing your guitar chart in the videpo puts me to shame. Great job, can’t wait to play them all!

  7. One of the best weeks yet, I actually listened to the Laugh Laugh many times before because I found out about it from the Flintstones (it was featured in one of the later seasons).
It’s really refreshing to see 60’s tracks represented, hoping for more to come like *California Dreaming by The Mamas & The Papas and The End by The Doors.
    Thanks!

  8. Oh my god, this “golden age” pack really is pure gold! So many great, classic hits! I’m getting them all! Thanks to all the authors, and special thanks to ws54 for his significant contribution! These are AWESOME!

    1. Patience. Xbox 360 downloads are provided weekly at 10am. The other formats you have to wait until the kind people who are volunteering their time to convert them do so. Just because lately they’ve been going out of their way to have them ready so soon after release doesn’t mean they have to. So, give them some time. Keep checking the DB.

      1. By no means do I think they have to – I’m just asking since I really want to play these songs (they look awesome) and would hate to miss out. I’ll keep checking back!

  9. great pack. lots of fun had playing these. way to push the rb envelope. every part of it was top quality. you guys are on a great roll, bring on this next next week.
