Flagging problematic customs

Thinking out loud, it would be useful if the database had a simple functionality for raising a flag on a problematic custom so that they would be immediately visible in the list, with a notification sent to the uploader even if they are not following their own customs.
At least it already happened to me many times to download a custom that had no comments but ended up being unusable and I had to delete it from my RB3, which is not a big task (on PS3 it’s a bit more annoying than xbox) but certainly is a big let down.
Flagging should be meant ONLY for customs that have glaring mistakes making something not playable, for example:
– broken link
– invalid or corrupted CON
– missing/empty instruments tracks in MIDI (i.e. the DTA signals an instrument but the MIDI doesn’t have it) or missing audio
– extremely low audio volume
– missing or clearly incorrect tempo mapping
– very clearly wrong instrument chart
PS3 users also have the problems of customs which freeze the game or get stuck looping at the end, but the same customs work fine on xbox so perhaps they should not be flagged for everyone.
Understably, the risk with having a flag is that some users might just flag a custom because they disagree with the rendition or even because they just don’t like the song, so some responsibility is required from the users so that it doesn’t turn into the old abuse of the rating system. Admins and the original uploader should be able to reset the flag if inappropriate.

August 27, 2020 at 3:21 pm #513772so, like a flag that says, “you suck”, something like that?
just make a comment if it’s not to your satisfaction. say thank you first, then proceed to point out the inaccuracies. or better yet, help the person fix it or give them a chance to fix it before giving them a scarlet letter. just use the comment section as a flag. anything else will be abused.

I think the flag is just to ensure the author see’s responses since not everyone’s enables the follow feature for their own songs.
August 27, 2020 at 6:00 pm #513779Not a fan of any public shaming whether intentional or not (what one person may consider a “clearly wrong chart” could be seen as highly subjective around here). If it privately notified the author of an issue, fine, but that’s not what I read. Anyway, that system is also established; a little button at the top that looks like an envelope icon. If they don’t respond to that, they certainly wouldn’t respond to a flag.
The intent sounded like to save the user from downloading a “useless” custom; therefore, wasting that user’s time (for something they get for the absolute low cost of nothing). To which I say, leave a comment and that will give you the notification that the custom may not be as expected.
August 27, 2020 at 6:25 pm #513782As AJFOne23 says, the intent would be to automatically send a notification to authors who don’t follow their own customs, as well as warning everyone to read the comments until the end.
There is no public shaming in a flag that just raises attention. Certainly, the possible risk is someone flagging customs they just don’t like, but that can be helped against for example by displaying a popup message that reminds the user that flagging is restricted to reporting obvious problems, and abusing the system can have consequences.
I think flagging should also alert a moderator in charge, who can then check the issue. If explained correctly, users would flag customs only rarely.

yes. there is. any alert that someone puts on someone else is a shaming of some sort when that doesn’t match the rest. i certainly don’t want people flagging my customs for reasons they feel are within “your” bounds but might not be legit. flagging means you think this custom isn’t up to par for WHATEVER reason, and that whatever reason is exactly what turns it to a public light. i don’t think moderators want MORE alerts for things that may or may not be legitimate issues (not to mention i don’t want to go around resetting flags if someone chooses to hit 100+ of my customs for the fun of it).
August 27, 2020 at 9:22 pm #513798You can feel safe that it ain’t gonna happen anyway.
But if you understand my first post, there is no reason to get mad. It really is about customs that have something accidentally wrong which makes something unplayable. Abuse can be prevented by for example allowing no more than one flagging per day. As a legitimate author you WANT to be notified if your CON is not playable, or one of its instruments is, otherwise you’ve wasted your work.
Examples of customs I’ve recently encountered which would be worth flagging:
– custom has no audio (completely unplayable)
– custom has audio of one song and midi of another (completely unplayable)
– tempo map was not included in the midi (becomes unplayable after the first few measures)
These are probably all caused by late fixes to a CON without retesting before uploading the update.
August 27, 2020 at 10:14 pm #513805who’s mad? your suggestion is just unnecessary IMO. comment or contact the author. those things are available now. done and done.
August 27, 2020 at 11:40 pm #513810We had to remove the very basic and apparently inoffensive Like system because people were abusing it to dislike songs as opposed to charts or even authors. You can imagine how a flagging system could be abused. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> But more importantly, there would be no way to moderate it: we don’t have the resources to download each flagged song, test it and report on it. It’s also a solution in search of a problem: full band songs are usually free from glaring issues, and authors who deliver full band customs that are really subpar are usually quickly identified by the community and tuned out
August 28, 2020 at 12:54 am #513813The concept is there but constructive criticism is better said in comment form & not based on a like, dislike or a flag. Think of it like this, you upload a video to YouTube, you get an instant dislike when you upload it. You are deeply confused but you then start to wonder if its just you & not your content. Similar to a chart on here, its more beneficial to actually tell them what problems youve found or if you request something to be fixed that wasnt up to par.
