I need help. Let’s set the scene:
This is the HARM1 and HARM3 of Back in School by Mother Mother. The vocals are now complete, but I’m a bit confused on how to handle the phrase markers. I know that HARM1 phrase markers must include HARM2’s tubes, and HARM2’s phrase markers must include HARM3’s tubes (HARM2 is not shown above, but it’s identical to HARM1).
The problem is… slides. All those +’s are messing with me. In previous songs with this problem, I was able to split HARM3’s words between different phrases present in HARM1 or just make the phrase markers really long since not much was actually going on. An example of the former is in my still-unpublished Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, visible here:
All those bums are safely under the HARM1 umbrella.
What’s the best way to handle situations like these?
I could double the phrase lengths of Back in School at that part by having “Back in school back in place back in school back in chains” as one phrase… but that is inconsistent with the rest of the song. Also, that phrase marker overlaps with the HARM3 phrase marker (which I know is unnecessary, but I find it useful for organizational purposes) because I wanted the phrase to end when the actual word terminates.
Also, about hiding lyrics… I’ve used it once with my release of Black River Killer by Blitzen Trapper. But it acted strange. It seemed to want to hide more than what I marked with $. Does it effect syllables, words, or phrase markers? Or some combination? Or is it just bizarre and bugged on the Wii? lolz
March 31, 2018 at 10:30 am #496585Making phrases longer is fine provided that they’re not too long and don’t show lyrics anymore. Consistency is important but you need to make ends meet. Also, whenever you really have exhausted your options and you have Ahs going on with slides, you can choose to change one of the + to Ah so you can chope the marker. Mind you: no solution is elegant when you have no other proper solution, you just have to employ the less awful tactic, be it hiding lyrics that would need to be on screen, leaving out notes altogether, changing slides into proper syllables, etc. Again, this only applies to scenarios where all other options have been exhausted.

Well, Magma didn’t return an error, so there’s that!

Thanks for the reply. I went with your suggestion of splitting the Ahs into two separate Ahs and it’s workable now. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> Also had to hide a ton of lyrics because (and this might be a Wii issue) sometimes, even though all three parts are singing the same lyrics and tubes, a duplicate word will appear.

Sadly Magma will not complain, you would find out that some lyrics are disappearing only by playing in game.
