The past week or two, nearly every time I download a custom from the via mediafire, some other page pops up with an obviously fake “you have a virus!!!” thing and tries to run some “anti virus” script.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one having this issue, but since a lot of the user made customs are on mediafire, watch out.
July 2, 2016 at 12:44 am #471382I heard one other report of this, told directly to me, though I only recently started using Mediafire because a few people have told me that Mega doesn’t work for them.
Does anyone have any pointers as to a good website to upload files to, that won’t screw people in certain countries out from seeing it, or won’t show malicious ads to people using adblockers?
July 2, 2016 at 12:50 am #471383How about Firedrop?
July 2, 2016 at 1:00 am #471384I’ve noticed a lot of ads are getting through AdBlock recently. They’re getting considerably more aggressive.

I don’t know what’s a good alternative for the masses…but you have access to our server. Any reason you’re not using it?

Maybe it’s because it’s too fishy ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

July 3, 2016 at 2:36 am #471462July 3, 2016 at 2:53 am #471464Can confirm that mediafire has been doing this to me too. I’ve used it pretty much since I started charting (ages ago), and it never had this issue (or blatant advertisement from sketchy third-party sites)
Every time I download it pops open an about:blank page that does nothing, but the previous download page morphs into an advertisement. Guess they’re not making enough money on storage
July 3, 2016 at 3:45 pm #471492I remember downloading a custom from someones Google Drive, that’s at least a nice, clean safe page to download from (I’ve also had some… “aggressive” ads).
How would one upload to keepitfishy?
July 3, 2016 at 4:07 pm #471494You don’t. I have a limited amount of users, so those accounts are restricted to C3 authors and a select few I deem have contributed enough to the community to earn it. If I had unlimited ftp users it would be a different story…but I don’t.

July 4, 2016 at 12:28 am #471514Just pulled in a dozen songs from various authors all using mediafire – no problems. As always, there’s two or three pop ups behind my browser when I’m finished, but nothing malicious and no page hijacks.
July 4, 2016 at 12:36 am #471516Yeah this happens every once in a while. There’s a surge of very aggressive ads that eventually quell after a bit. Not really Mediafire’s problem – just don’t click on them!
Also get Adblock Plus. Usually helps a lot.
July 4, 2016 at 3:16 am #471522I’ve not had any attacks I don’t think (avast usually blocks them) but I keep getting these audio ones which keep pooping up a prompt so I’m unable to close the window straight away, they’re a pain in the ass lol.
How come mediafire became the ad-hoc download page for most when the database went up? I’m considering using Google drive.
July 4, 2016 at 3:24 am #471523If you want or need a more convenient way to get by in downloading files from file hosting sites without being pestered by potentially harmful ads, use JDownloader2 and drop Mediafire URLs in it to skip through to the file.
If the point was just a concern about Mediafire in and of itself being a potential harm with its ads, you should contact them directly about it and report the ads.
