Is it just me, or are a bunch of the (non C3) customs off sync? I was playing for awhile last night and noticed that probably 1/3 or 1/4 of the songs I downloaded have some serious timing issues. I went back and played some other songs (C3, and official releases) just to make sure it wasn’t me/my calibration being screwy and it was most definitely the songs/charts.
I doubt there’s any way to fix this other than rebuilding the song in reaper myself, but I figured I would ask around and see if the community had any experience/insight with this before I invest so heavily in fixes these songs lol.

It is not just you, it is a common problem. One thing you can be pretty sure of is that if the foundation is not right (the tempo map) then almost certainly the instrument charts are not very good either and it is likely that all of the charts will need significant rework.

November 6, 2015 at 1:51 pm #458852If you do notice this issue on a song I’m sure the author would appreciate a heads up that there are issues with the song (especially if the song has been added to the database).
I know I would want to know if one of my songs had a problem!
November 7, 2015 at 2:01 am #458880I’ll keep that in mind! It’ll be a pain to track all the authors down for these songs lol but I’ll try!

November 7, 2015 at 11:27 am #458889Tempo maps are probably the biggest discrepancy between Harmonix content and customs.
Not enough people understand how to map properly because anything complicated requires kinda deep understanding of how time signatures work.Personally I think it’s what makes the biggest difference between whether a song is fun to play (and fun/possible to FC,) even if the chart isn’t the best, if it’s in time I can have fun with it.
Definitely comment on a song in the DB, or in the authors thread, or even just PM the author so that they can be aware of the issue, there’s not enough feedback for authors, especially ones just starting out.

I wish it was like that. Most the wonky tempo maps are simple beats, but are sloppy or made to fit an audio file that starts at 3.1.00 regardless of downbeats and upbeats.
November 7, 2015 at 11:46 am #458892Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of those, I imagine stuff like that is really confusing if you’re just learning how to count musically.

But see, even things like that ARE complicated to us boneheaded newbies.

The point I was trying to make is that it’s not just supercomplex time signatures that create problems. Sloppy tempo maps have really not much of an excuse: if peaks are off by 1/8th or so it’s just a matter of tightening the tempo map up. Another issue is the downbeat/upbeat beginning of a song, and that is a genuine issue.
