Was just kinda curious ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” /> I started through my cousins showing me GH 2. Tried and failed miserably but I loved it. When I saved up enough money I bought an xbox 360 (which is my favorite console besides the Playstation 1) and the first game I got was GH3 . I would play that game everyday, and taught myself to be able to pass semi-hard songs on expert. I bought every GH that came out until I went over to my cousins and they sat me down, pulled out a 4 pad drum kit, a mic, and 2 guitars, and showed me Rockband. We had nights where we would just drink redbull and play rockband all night. Again, as soon as I got enough money I bought the rockband bundle and worked on drums, which I was able to start on medium/hard, seeing as though I had never touched a drum kit before I was suprised. Bought every rockband game since, and love rockband 3. Now everyone knows me as “The rockband guy” and I can now play expert songs on drums/guitar with quite ease. Rockband will always be one of my favorite games of all time and thanks to everyone here I can enjoy it even more! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
April 29, 2015 at 11:56 am #444090One day I was sick from school and the next day one of the students from my class was playing Guitar Hero 1 at school, when it is free time we got to play it and I was really bad, I did have guitar hero before then but never really remember what happened but I played Guitar Hero with my friend and I started to become better as I started to play smash hits as it had songs from Guitar Hero 1 but I did not know why it sounded different but I did not know the songs from Guitar Hero 1 was covers but I started to play hard and stuff, I remember at school trying to get passed the solo to Smoke On The Water as I was really bad at expert but then also failed at Iron Man on hard but it was the end of the team and I found through the fire and flames on the holidays and that was when I got passed Smash Hits on medium difficulty but sadly I did not know it would be the last of Guitar Hero for free time in class but at the end of the team we would be able to play, I will write more later ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
April 29, 2015 at 1:45 pm #444100Oh my story is a great one.
I had scholarship money to go to university. They gave me back money after my classes were paid into a school account I could use at school. There was a Gamestop in the campus that took that school card. They had the WoR band kit. I bought it, and walked out of university carrying that thing.
Then I got RB3 and TBRB and the rest is history.

My son had all the GH’s up to the introduction of RB. I never played any of it, though they did turn me onto a lot of songs I didn’t know. When RB2 came out, he got a microphone and drums for Christmas – I tried singing one night and was hooked. I tried the guitar and drums but only liked the guitar. By the time RB3 came out, my son was leaving the house so I bought his Xbox and account (I had filled it with DLC after all) and focused on improving my guitar skills until I could make it through just about any “challenging” song on expert. I’d play about 4-5 times per week then I heard about the DLC stoppage. When I learned I could make my own customs, I refocused my attention on that. I’ll be staying in the land of RB3 for a while – I like it here. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
April 29, 2015 at 6:45 pm #444136Back in the early 2000s, I used to hang out with my neighborhood friend a lot, he moved across town sometime during 2005/6. One of the games he had for PS2 was Guitar Hero 2, and because they only had one guitar, I played using the controller, which sucked. I thought it was insanely cool, though, so I got Guitar Hero 2 once it came out for Xbox 360. My family got Rock Band once they saw how neat-o it was, we played 1-3 a ton once they each came out, and I played all the GH games up to 5/Band Hero.
I used to listen to nothing but rap and hip/hop during the mid 2000s, mostly to fit in, but I started appreciating music that was older than me, and rock/metal/punk in general, once I really got into GH/RB.
April 29, 2015 at 7:09 pm #444138Cousin had GH1 and eventually I tried it but he didn’t really explain how to play. So my first song I failed instantly because I was focused on just hitting the buttons rather than strumming. I didn’t try playing again until he got GH2 and how to play just suddenly clicked for some reason. After that I was hooked even if I didn’t care for the on-disc songs.
Rock Band DLC got me into a much wider range of genres. Before that I basically listened to only pop, rap, pop-rock and stuff like that from the radio.
On RB1 I would ALWAYS pick Here it Goes Again by Ok Go and I’m sure my cousin hated me for that ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
April 29, 2015 at 8:22 pm #444143Girl I use to hang out with had GH2, we would all sit around in her basement playing it. Ended up getting GH2 when I got my 360. GH3 came out not soon after. The rest is history.
April 29, 2015 at 8:31 pm #444145I heard GH2 had Trogdor in it and being a huge Homestar Runner fan, I had to have it. Haven’t played a GH since 3 cuz once Harmonix left I followed them over to Rock Band and haven’t regretted it once
April 29, 2015 at 8:58 pm #444148I’ve played DDR since I was young, and they always had random “known” songs that were really cut down to play. I use to go to my local mall with a buddy and play all the time.
It was his birthday one night, and he had a party. Someone there I knew brought over Guitar Hero 2, which I didn’t think I would really be in to. My buddy told me I’d probably like it… but meh.
Then he got up and picked Freebird (great song). Watching him play, I was honestly incredibly happy to know that it was the FULL song in the game, and not a random cut down version like I’d be use to. That got me really excited, and at the time, the 360 version of GH2 was going to be released the next month. Went a dropped a pre-order, got my GH2 on the 360… and the rest went down like that.
Went through on Medium… then Hard (difficult at first, but I picked it up somewhat easy with the shifting — Sweet Child o’ Mine will teach you that EASILY ha)… and then expert. I’ve been naturatlly good at rhythm games from DDR, Piano as a child, and Drums later in life.
Then RB came out, and the full band thing hooked me with drums.
April 29, 2015 at 10:24 pm #444151Best Buy demo.
Stores in my area don’t demonstrate games anymore, afraid of their property being stolen.
April 30, 2015 at 1:32 am #444159Impulse bought GH2 at a local shop after winning Friday Night Magic one week.
Got home at 10. Played until 4 AM. The rest is history.
April 30, 2015 at 2:01 am #444161I got a PS2 not long before GH3 came out, and I decided to try it. Played over holiday vacation and got hooked going through the setlist on medium (oh man, Raining Blood medium was the hardest shit ever) and getting to some on Hard.
I heard about customs and started dicking around with GH2 but it seemed to be a lot more trouble than it was worth. Eventually we got interested in the band experience living with 3 roommates, so I decided to splurge on a PS3 and GHWT, which quickly turned into Rock Band 2 as it became clear that they had more songs and less disc swapping. I got a little addicted and bought way too many songs, probably over a hundred of which I still haven’t played.
TBRB was a bit awkward since there was no way to export and by the time it came out we had virtually sworn off swapping discs to play the other songs, but the harmony feature was exactly what we needed with multiple people wanting to sing. By the time RB3 came out I wasn’t living there, so ever since it’s been mostly my wife and whichever friends are willing to throw down.
We hadn’t played regularly in a couple years until I discovered C3. Customs really revitalized it for us. Now I have a badass set of V-drums to flail on and so much selection that even my parents can find stuff they’re willing to play with us. Our dogs have never been so inconvenienced ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
April 30, 2015 at 12:23 pm #444172I saw a GH3 bundle on deep discount at Big Lots, and since I had been meaning to try it anyway, I snagged it. I jumped right into Sunshine of Your Love on Medium (let’s start low, I thought) and got owned. I then started the career mode on easy and gradually worked my way up to master medium. I remember Hit Me With Your Best Shot being the song that I learned medium on. I played that game so much I saw the note highway in my sleep!
It wasn’t until TBRB came out (and what a fantastic day that was) that I started really trying to improve my play. A guy at work had it too and was going to bring it in to play as a band, but would only allow me to play if I could play his favorite songs on Hard. So I practiced for days on Dear Prudence, Come Together, and Here Comes the Sun.
Then I discovered that RB1 had two of my favorite songs ever: Gimme Shelter and Won’t Get Fooled Again. That was an insta-buy. I soon moved on to RB2 and formed a band with a couple other friends from work. I made the first jump to Expert difficulty, learning on Gimme Shelter, We Got The Beat, and Hungry Like The Wolf. I’ve been on Expert guitar for a few years now, but every time I think I hit a wall I discover some new little trick to let me progress just a little bit further. I’m still not a great player but I did finally 5 start Beast and the Harlot on Expert! That song had kept me from getting the Expert Master goal for so damn long. Of course my save file had gotten erased in the interim so I still have some more work to do…
