I hate to be the bearer of bad news (don’t sue me), but there won’t be a hint thread this week. Yes, that’s another week without one.

After some discussion with the other admin staff, and after having received and put forth some suggestions for hints, most of the ‘best fit’ ones are a little too obvious, and I’m pretty sure the only hints that would fly under the radar are ones that are bordering on being as obscure as the Supertramp week (the random-ass text string hint was so awesome I keep trying to beat it creatively, unsuccessfully) or the Ministry week (with the album-quirky keywords), and I worry that ends up bordering on self-parody. I also considered going 20 Question-style but I think we’re too late in the week to start that.

Since I know how much nerd rage arose as a result of the extremely hard hints, and given that I want to keep community activity and engagement up, I wouldn’t dare to try something as stupid-hard as those again. As much as I do love being able to wield the power of the impossible hint (and sometimes make it a mission of mine), it’s not all that fun for either of us when the hints look like they were generated by rolling a pair of dice and cross-referencing them with a list of words.

Please accept my sincerest apologies. I’ll take my lumps for not delivering on the goods this week, but I can assure you that (barring changes) the songs we’ve got coming up in the pipeline are far more hint friendly, so we should be back in business for next week’s releases (with the odd exception).

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

How do you guys (our users) feel about straightforward but small hints? Stuff like “this week has an indie rock artist new to Rock Band”, or “one of this week’s artists has exactly seven songs currently available as DLC”? Things that can give you a subset of possible artists or songs but never explicitly reveal Friday’s content.

Personally, I don’t care for hints. I’m just hoping for Beatles, GnR, and some specific songs. Though I get totally surprised and excited when a song has been uploaded that I liked a lot but never thought about until I read it and then have it stuck in my head for a long time (Like “Video Killed The Radio Star”, it’s still stuck in my head).

Are we getting a Halloween theme pack this year? Halloween is on a Thursday so maybe that weeks releases can be be released one day early.

I definitely prefer these type of hints. It at least allows some discussion to go on about which artist/song of the subset everyone would prefer, etc (which after all is the point of forums, right?). And that is information that anyone can go look up without having to have specific knowledge of a band/hint/song/etc.

Agreed. When Cyndi Lauper was guessed I was 98% certain that was going to be the release, but even still I wasn’t certain exactly which songs would be released. Got me excited, but still an element of surprise come Friday.

It’s also nice to know when there are still no correct guesses, because it lets me know to keep trying.

The Celebrity Apprentice part of the CL hint was almost too easy. My thought there was Espher used “associated with Celebrity Apprentice”, which was my lingering doubt making me wonder, “maybe by ‘associated’ he means married to a contestant…”. Kept me wondering til Friday in the end.

I’m gonna do what I use to do in the hint threads at the official forums.

Disregard the hints completely and “guess” some stuff that is actually just stuff that I want.

The hint this week is that Friday is my birthday.

So we will get the Female Lead Pack!

    Because I like that shit

I like a mixture of both straight forward hints and obscure ones, although not the mega hard ones! but as long as the quality songs keep coming (and someone does some steel panther) i’ll be happy

And I guess we’re going to do like Harmonix did, and disregard the wish lists and release whatever the hell we want :excited:

Isn’t this the week someone vaguely hinted about on the SA forums?

Ah, misdirection. Apparently I need to go back and read that apologia more carefully…Let’s see here:

It’s weird; all of that seems to point to something.

Edit: I keep finding more words to bold! It’s gonna be pretty embarrassing if these aren’t real hints and I’m just yanking my own chain.
