so excited to finally be about to upgrade my pc…everything I do: programming, video editing, 3d design, audio editing, all the rock band stuff, all my photoshop stuff…has been done on an i3 on an old SATA drive…

    just delivered from newegg…

    i7 3770 :c00l: + new badass Asus mobo

    256GB SSD (Samsung 840 Pro)

    2TB SATA drive

8GB ballistix low profile memory (to join my existing 8GB for a total of 16G:cool:

this will join my dedicated video and sound cards, my other 1.75TB of storage and Blu-ray burner

this should make things easier

actually, if you would know just how much work i’ve been doing, you’d be giving me an e-medal.

stay tuned for some very exciting news.

p.s. i’m delaying the build until after a few weeks since I can’t afford down time right now

    Congrats. Upgrades are always nice.

I’m running on a Core 2 Quad, SATA drive, 4 GB of RAM (recently upgraded from 2 GB!), and was uploading RB:HP videos at a whopping 0.35 Mb/s. Got a free upgrade from my ISP to Fiber (30 Mb/s upload! Woo!) and am looking at buying this or something comparable soon. Just kind of price watching.

Wouldn’t you be better off waiting for a Haswell? $200 is a lot to spend on an already obsolete motherboard.

Probably. I honestly don’t have the hardware savvy I used to and am not really up to date.

I guess when they’re out (sooner than I thought) I’ll try to read up and make a board decision, unless you’ve got suggestions.

Hijacking the thread — Haswells do not seem to be reviewing too well, so I might just go with my original plan and worry about replacing the board and chip in a few years.

    pictures!!!

the storage! from left to right 256GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB

my first SSD ever…boy this is a step up from my very old SATA HDD

the new processor…big step up from 1st gen i3 to 3rd gen i7

dedicated sound card with optical in/out

had to get a new case ’cause the new motherboard was too tight in my old one

the sweet BIOS…pictures and mouse support!? i’ve been out of the loop for too long…

    and the final build

    Kinda pictured / not really:

    – LG Blu-Ray RW

    – nVidia GTS 450 video card (i know, crappy)

    – hot swappable ready connection! (you can see my old 250GB SATA still plugged in)

finally I can enjoy my computing experience :excited:

I hope there’s a fan in that hot swap. Hard drives without air flow are sad things indeed.

    there’s a big (120mm? 180mm?) fan right underneath it.
