To follow up on my previous post, it turns out my USB stick got corrupted and froze my USB Loader. So I got a new USB stick, fixed my ng_id file, and it finally works! Thank you to Stack and everyone else who helped out!

For future people trying to get customs, though, I feel the initial post could be made clearer so that sifting through the 3000 thread posts isn’t required. In particular, discussing sZGE instead of (or alongside) sZFE, explaining a USB loader must be used, and that IOS249 is required, all of which I had to learn by reading pages of questions from others. Everyone here has been very knowledgeable and helpful with answering questions, but including this information would avoid the need for asking in the future.

As far as I understand how cIOSes works, the number of the slot doesn’t matter, you can install any cIOS in any slot, you just need to install the right one and select the slot that it was installed in.

However, if you followed any good wii hacking guides, the right cIOS should be installed in slot 249. If you have doubt on what you installed on your Wii I think the linked Wii hacking guide on the first page of this thread includes methods for already hacked Wii, you’d basically just need to download a set of WADs and install them.

Sorry for the late reply, but I’ve confirmed that everything is set up correctly, with system 56 being downloaded to both 248 and 249. Like I said before, CFG USB Loader freezes on “booting, please wait…”, and I just tried with USB Loader GX, which freezes on a black screen after hitting play. The game works perfectly on cIOS 224, but then I get the “Device in the SD slot cannot be read” error because it’s not running off of system 56. For some reason, my game just doesn’t want to boot up RB3 with 56. I know this may not be in the realm of Rock Band specifically, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

So after a few weeks of setting up the system and taking a break at it, I’ve got nearly everything set up, but I’m running into some late-stage issues. After getting the error message of “The device in the SD card slot cannot be read”, I realized I was running the game through cIOS 224 when I should be through 248. So I download system 56 v10 onto 248 using d2x, but when I try to run the game on CFG USB Loader, it freezes when trying to boot the game; I tried the same with cIOS 249 with the same results. Do you have any advice on how to get around this? Any advice I’ve seen on the CFG bug tells me to use 223/4, which I don’t think would work.

It doesn’t include the sample song, but any Wii custom can go in there for you to test. You need to prepare the files that are included there first, which means getting your console ID and writing it into ng_id.txt and finding the common key and updating the placeholder file with the actual 16 byte key.

Thanks, that helped me figure a lot more out! However, custom songs aren’t showing up after deleting MSTORE, and I feel like the issue was from one of these two files. Following earlier instructions, I got the ng_id from an official DLC file, and the common-key is a 32-character string from the internet. Are these the correct entries? Should I be inputting my 16-digit console ID anywhere?

If these aren’t the issue, I’m not sure what else I could be doing wrong. I put the two resulting bin files into the sZFE folder I created, deleted MSTORE, and booted the game, where my official DLC was reloaded as expected.

I’m looking to get custom songs set up, but I’m having trouble with the very basic first step. I downloaded and expanded the sZGE.rar folder on my Mac, but it doesn’t have any folders, let alone the “two folders with numbers in their name” mentioned in the original post. Instead, it holds 15 files, including “00000001”, “common key”, “cygcrypto-0.9.8.dII”, etc. Am I supposed to be downloading a different file? I can’t figure out what I’ve done wrong here.
