I’ve wanted to do this song since the album came out (almost a year ago
) but just never quite lined up that way. Built a new PC and what better excuse to chart it than to make sure my workflow all works! (Spoiler alert: it didn’t. Getting everything for charting back together was harder than I thought it would be lol)Anyway, great song, and I’m glad I did it.
I will say the Guitar was harder to chart than my brain thought it would be, and it came out a little less well than I had hoped… but I still like it and still wanted to share. All other instruments are great (imo) so give it a go!
I also took some time to fix the animations on the EP Tracks, so I’ll be updating each of those in the database. I finally got a chance to playtest each of them, and as I was finishing up Air I realized I had made a minor error in that the midi files I imported to put the songs together weren’t 100% up to date with the ones in the individual songs that are up on the database…. so there are some minor differences (errors in charting) between the individual tracks and the EP tracks. The problem is I don’t know exactly which songs had changes and which ones didn’t, and I don’t currently have the motivation to go back through and replace every single song (sorry!). Maybe someday.
Anyway. That’s it for me. My next release(s) will probably be non-Thrice stuff. I do want to get around to some more Illusion, Beggars, and M/m stuff, but I have some other songs I’d rather work on/tweak first before I get to all that. Also I can’t give any sort of timetable on when my next releases will be because school is starting up again and this semester looks like it’s gonna be a bit tougher than last semester… also I’m having a (second) baby this summer (but maybe that will give me an excuse to chart more…somehow. lol) and…. stuff and things.

Hmm… Okay, that’s fair I guess. Too bad. I wish I knew more about that type of thing so I could port it over, since obviously all of the assets exist. I just wouldn’t know where to even start unfortunately.

Just curious, do we know *why* the Pro Drums/Keys don’t work on the Mac side? All of the textures for them are there in the plugins folder, so I would assume they either were supported or planned to be supported at one point, unless HMX was just lazy when they were bundling up the installation files for Mac and left them in for no reason…
Mainly I’m asking because as part of my debacle of figuring out the RDP Audio issue yesterday (which I posted another thread about), I got REAPER set up on the Mac side and frankly so far it seems like an overall better experience. I couldn’t remember why I hadn’t stuck with it before when I first started authoring and then I noticed the Pro Drums weren’t registering and that was it.
At this point I’m experienced enough with authoring that I could probably do without and be just fine, but since I put all the effort into setting up on Windows I figure if I can’t get Pro Drums working on the Mac side, I’ll probably just stick with that…
Anyway, like I said I’m mostly just curious if anybody smarter than I am knows why Pro Drums/Keys don’t show up as options in the RBN Preview on the Mac side. Would be really cool if we could get that fixed. I have at least 1 friend who I know it would probably help get into the authoring world.

Animations fail to start on Firebreather
The Arsonist sounds like crap compared to the other songs (this happens a lot in my experience working with Guitar Hero converts. I’ll see what I can do about it)
Animations get broken somewhere in the middle as well, but they were definitely working on at least a couple songs.
I haven’t tested Water or Air, but it wouldn’t surprise me if similar animations issues occur.
The song loaded just fine and everything so I don’t feel the need to pull it down. I don’t know exactly when I’ll have the motivation to fix it, but I probably will do that before I release anything else. Unless I get one of those uncontrollable itches where I have to chart something NOW.
Anyway that’s my update for….this…uh… day….week..month.. thing. I’m also starting school back up again this week so I really don’t know when I’ll have time for stuff. We’ll see.

I’m assuming this means it will no longer be allowed on the customs database, so unless a mod speaks up and says otherwise I’ll plan on taking it down sometime early next week (to give people a last chance to grab it if they so please).
In other news, Zelda is amazing and I haven’t touched a single other video game since the Switch released. I still haven’t even play tested the EP tracks… but I also don’t have any angry messages saying that they’re awful or don’t work so I’m hopefully everything turned out.

Not a lot to say about these songs, other than that I’ve always really loved the ending of each track and how it kind of ties each EP together with it’s format and tune. Really great stuff. I was worried about Silver Wings at first but it ended up being very straight forward and still pretty fun. Kings Upon The Main was difficult to chart, but I think I did an okay job (at least). Flame Deluge hits hard (like it should.)

What, you didn’t think I wasn’t gonna make full EP tracks now did you? The only reason I didn’t release Vheissu was because of Image Of The Invisible being official DLC! GOSH. You know me! I will say as a disclaimer that I have not had the opportunity to test these “Full EP” tracks and I probably won’t for a bit…. I’m leaving in a couple hours to go camp out with my friend (who didn’t get a pre-order…) in line for a Switch, after which I’m going to my own line to pick up my pre-order…… and then Zelda. Zelda Zelda Zelda.
If I get a chance though, I will test the tracks and make sure everything turned out alright. In the meantime, if anybody notices anything please feel free to post the feedback here and I’ll take a look at it when I can.
Thanks for all the support to those of you who enjoy my stuff. I’ll say right now that my next release is probably going to be The Window, and after that I have some Brand New tracks and maybe some Pierce The Veil, or other video game related music I’ve been thinking of charting for awhile.
In terms of the Thrice Charting future… definitely some stuff from Beggars and Major/Minor, though I’m not sure if I’ll do “full album” stuff for either of those. TBEITBN will also have a few more tracks released eventually. Still up in the air about “full album” on that. There are a couple more songs I’d like to take a crack at from Illusion of Safety… Though I still get some PTSD when I think about charting those songs. Also a couple standouts from Identity Crisis I’d like to see (Phoenix Ignition? A Torch To End All Torches?), and probably some live tracks.
It’s funny, but my reaction to that above paragraph is “that’s it? Shouldn’t there be more?” but really when I step back and look at it, I’ve charted nearly half of Thrice’s studio work. That is crazy to me. OH. I do intend on cleaning up the drums on TAITA at some point as well. There are some little nuances that bug me whenever I play them (no “accent” snares, some mis-charted crashes/hi-hats in a couple songs), but whenever I think about “fixing” them it just doesn’t sound appealing at all. Definitely one of those things I have to be in the mood for.
Anyway enough of my rant. I hope you enjoy the tracks, and to those of you getting a Switch I hope you love it as much as I know I’m gonna love mine!

A few (brief) notes:
Burn The Fleet is rad. Play it. I especially like it on drums.
The Whaler was tough. The tempo map was weird and I ended up under-charting the drums. Partially because everything that was “audible” got muddled together between Riley and drum samples overlaying over eachother. There was also just some general playability concerns. I’ve scored ~95% on it at this point so I’m pretty sure it’s solid at this point. I might do some minor revisions to it later at some point.
As The Crow Flies is super stripped down but also very beautiful. Fun on Guitar and Vocals. Bass line is pretty repetitive but not awful.

There are varying amounts of notes to go with each song in the database, but my personal favorite from the pack is The Sky Is Falling.
Okay so time for some personal word vomit stuff. I started school in October and it’s been…. hellish. It’s been manageable so far but it’s also come at a time in life when there are lots of other things pulling me in all different directions. I’m not even to the difficult part yet and it’s already been rough. But that’s okay.
So what does this mean for customs? Nothing really… I’m gonna keep working on them at about the same pace I think. I just started my winter break (I have this week off) so I *might* get another pack out before the new year…. but don’t hold your breath. I’ve been semi-addicted to FFXV which will probably take priority of free time for the next couple of days at least.
What’s next for customs? Well at this point you can probably tell I’m working on Alchemy Index. I’ve got 2-3 tracks from each (planned) EP done, and for the most part the “harder to chart” songs have been charted.
I’m also throwing in random non-alchemy stuff as you’ve seen to: 1. Keep things fresh. 2. Keep customs as a hobby and not a job when I’m working on them (projects put me into job mentality whether I like it or not). I’ve got a lot of stuff in mind for “extra” songs. Some Thrice and some not. If you have any requests from any artists that I’ve released previously, feel free to post them here and I might throw one in as an extra.
