Make it easier for yourself

Ill be honest, it wont be much easier on me to do the unpitched. My main hatred is the tedious lining up of note tubes, making them the right note is easy. My main issue was how readable and playable the chart would be with the pitches. I suppose thats more a judgment call, but maybe playtesters will have something to say about that.

If you did take the time to pitch it all (or even most of it), very few players would be able to sing it “properly” (all screamy like the singer himself!) anyway, and they’d just be humming or crooning, so it doesn’t seem worth the effort, IMO.

I dont mind if theyre not singing it properly. Hell, during the unpitched portions theyll probably just be mumble rapping anyway.

    Good luck!

Thanks, Im gonna need it. I do honestly appreciate your input, and hopefully this will turn out better because of it.

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful. You said something about a Discord. I may have to do some sleuthing to see what that’s about. Anyway, I can’t thank you enough for that; it always drove me crazy that there wasn’t any clarification on that.

EDIT: Never mind, I’m an idiot, you just said that they were on Discord in general.

in reply to: A Quick Guide to Reduction Rules #502101

I have a couple of questions about this that have yet to be answered by even the documentation.

    1. What exactly counts as a “quick” Green – Orange? No notes in between? Anytime within a quarter note? I’m sure it depends on tempo, but I’d assume an average tempo.

    2. Unlike Pro Drums, which seem to be more an extension of the Expert drums, almost like an Expert+, the x2 Bass Pedal version of a song is an entirely separate chart. Would that be an Expert exclusive, or would the tips for kick reducing vary depending on which version it was? Basically, is x2 Bass Pedal also just Expert+, or would the lower difficulties assume a double kick as well?

    Thanks for reading!

EDIT: So I thought that the documentation made a remark about how #1 was unclear. Apparently I was mistaken.

    Good luck with your project.

Thanks, I’ll most likely need it.

For repetitive songs like this, if you don’t use CAT tools you’re wasting time.

Well of course, but you still have to proofread to make sure it didn’t screw it up horribly.

Thanks for all your opinions, guys! I WOULD just put the Hard chart as the Expert without delay, but that would violate a few Hard rules, and would mean there’d be conflicting difficulty levels. As much as I’d like to have the delay for feel’s sake, playability is ultimately what matters most, so I probably won’t chart the delay for it. Now I just have to do reductions…joy…

Again, thank you all for the insight.

    Any references?

To the song? It’s Rain, by Rob Scallon.

in reply to: 6/8 BEAT track #458494

I’ve only worked with one 6/8 song so far, and I authored the beat track as if it were 3/4. The resulting track seemed to play well enough. Farottone gives good advice, though. Check in-game and see what looks best.

Thanks, guys. I don’t actually have the Xbox 360 version of RB3, so I can’t easily check in-game, but I’m sure I can find some playtesters to check that it looks right. I’ll author it 3/4 to make sure the animations don’t screw up. Better safe than sorry.

in reply to: Should strings be authored as keys? #450115
Strings are authored to keys on a regular basis. Of course it depends on how well they translate in the game for the specific song you’re working on: if they don’t work out you can keep them in the backing track.

Normally, I’d just chart the violin and viola parts as the “right hand,” and put the cello parts (if there are any) as the left hand animation. I just didn’t know how well it would translate if the viola and cello got split between legato and staccato. Anyway, thanks for your input.

So how did I do on the chart so far? Anything people have to say would be very appreciated.

Sounds like you’re not aware of the Rock Band: Harmonies Project:

I was not. My bad XD

in reply to: Vocal phrase overlap?! #428822
You have a very short vocal phrase marker somewhere.

Okay, that fixed it. I guess it doesn’t like one beat long phrases, which makes sense. Thanks!

in reply to: Alternating Solos – How to Go About It? #428717
My take is long solos, no rhythm stuff, provided there’s a true alternance.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “true alternance,” but I do appreciate the insight.
