Are you still looking for submissions for this pack? I have the GH5 version of Sultans of Swing and I think that qualifies as an “exceptional song.” There have been a few attempts and versions of the song floating around but I will be doing a conversion “from scratch” to make sure its as good as it can be.
Yes, if we have more than 12 authors we will do 2 authors in one day as we did last year. I can happily share my day. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Things just got really busy for me at work so I am not going to add it to the schedule until I know I have time.
Hey guys, I just got moved on to a new project at work and it has been really cutting into my charting time. To be on the safe side I am going to pull my scheduled track from the Scotland pack and possibly release it as a standalone sometime later.

I will throw in a Franz Ferdinand track for this release as well.
Is anyone around to give a final checkoff on this?
Just have too much stress in my life with heavy depression and other terrible things and I need to take a break from everything until I can sort it all out.Hey man, don’t worry about it. We’re all in this for the fun of it, and if it has stopped being fun for you then by all means take a break! I hope that everything works out for you, and I want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the game. Take another look at your song download numbers and be proud of your work
If you haven’t done so already, might I suggest picking up an instrument? If you are really into music and want to learn more about theory, that might be a great option. You already will have a strong concept of rhythm and pitch from working on customs, and if you put just as much dedication into learning an instrument I guarantee you will see results. It’s a great way to blow off steam as well! I learned to play guitar entirely from online tabs and videos.
Best of luck NL.
Guitar X -6.4.67, 7.4.67, etc.: I am not sure you understand what I mean, in the main riff (at places, like the ones I described), what is currently charted as a single Green note should be a B/Y chord as it is a pitch in between the B/O and R/B chords while also being a ringed chord-like sound just like the B/O and R/B chords in question. Later in the repetition when the Keys come in, it is correctly charted as a single Green note yes, though that doesn’t apply to all repetitions of the riff. Consistency have to be based on what is actually played and not note structures, because if the guitarist plays something different in different repetitions of a riff we do have to chart that difference stillVocals Harmonies 106.1, if so I would say to chart HARM3 singing the same thing as HARM1 in all choruses seeing how it appears to go for a crowd vocals effect, and in this single instance have HARM1 sing the “gold” while HARM2/3 sings “house”, because I hear both of those words being sung here at full force
Alright, I understand what you are saying now and I agree. The vocals part was changed as per your first suggestion since I really only hear 2 vocal parts during thr chorus, and if there is a crowd vocals it is rather subtle. Now HARM1 and HARM2 sing “house” while HARM3 does the high “Gold.”
GENERAL:-Practice sections: As they are now they are broken and doesn’t make much sense compared to what is being played. Read up on the docs if you don’t know how to do them properly Fixed.
-Events: Put a [crowd_noclap] event at 118.1 Added.
-OD markers sometimes seems a bit long on the instruments, it should usually be 1 measure long though 2 measures is acceptable too Most have been reduced.
-Age rating: I would say to set it to FF unless some of the slang used here means something dirty, if it does set it to SR Forgot to toggle this in v4, will do this for final release.
-Some notes seems slightly off-grid. Not so much it’s gonna be noticeable, but be sure to quantize stuff under OD phrases to make sure nothing is accidentally left out of them and such THis was a result of porting the RPP over from an earlier version that did not have swing rhythm. Most have been fixed.
-Reaper: If possible, have the audio be a OGG file of the final ingame mix rather than WAV for the sake of space and download times in the playtesting RAR. Also try and have everything set up so it is easy to look over it without having to turn off VST’s for lower instrument PK parts and stuff Done
___
GUITAR:
-Tier: Seems a bit high, a 3 dot would probably be the best way to go Changed.
Expert:
-3.1, 5.3: Might be better as a Blue
-3.3, 4.3: Might work better if moved one color down
-3.4, 4.4: Don’t think these are grace notes to me, 3.4 sounds like a chord and 4.4 sounds like a single note
-6.4.67, 7.4.67, etc.: These G notes sounds like Y/B chords to me These aren’t G notes, and IMO they are still consistent
-46.2, 48.2, 84.2, etc.: Missing note, if necessary wrap the stuff before it to make it fit in
Made modifications to the intro and main riffs based on these suggestions.
Hard:
-3.3, 4.3, 5.3: These notes are lower than X.4 due to X.4 being a grace slide up to a higher note, I think it would be better to chart these as such pitch-wise
-6.4.67, 7.4.67, etc.: should be left in for Hard to make a difference between Medium and Hard
-46.2.67, 47.2.50, etc.: Sustains seem long enough to keep in on Hard as well as Expert
Reductions have been pretty much entirely redone based on all suggestions here. I won’t list them all.
Medium:
-General: Avoid having notes have a density of 8ths or closer, saw a few cases of it in the “solo” parts even if most of the song looks fine
-3.3: Pitch clash with the previous note, also happens on Easy
-32.4.67, 46.4.67, etc.: Think it would be better to chart the chord here instead of the G single note right before it
Easy:
-General: Avoid having 4th notes or more than 2 notes per measure
-General: Try to keep the whole chart to a 3 fret range at a time, there is too much moving up and down as it is, and some sections have R/B/G ranges which isn’t allowed (should be Y/B/O or R/Y/B if moved up at all)
___
BASS:
-Tier: Due to most of the challenge just being from the rhythm and the riffs themselves being very straight forward, I would recommend bumping it down to 1 dot
Agreed.
Easy
-Appears to not be finished, constant 4ths going on here. Be sure to reduce it down to 2ths
___
DRUMS:
-OD fills should be a full measure in length
Expert:
-26.1, 27.1, etc.: Put these crashes to Green, when using Blue during a hi-hat section it’s easy to misunderstand it as being a open hat and you avoid potential confusion this way
-119.2.32: Don’t think these hats should be off-grid
Fixed.
Medium:
-6.1 and out, etc.: Should look more like this:
In general try to avoid the extra swing hits in between the 4ths all together on Medium as it is more of a Hard-level technique
Easy:
-26.1, 38.1, etc.: Seems a bit undercharted, feel free to keep in the snares here (as well as the kick at 27.3)
___
KEYS:
-Tier seems a bit high here too, 2 dot or even 1 dot would be better I think
Expert:
-46.1, etc.: Be sure to have a full 8th between chord sustains
-Pro; 18.1: Goes off screen here, move the lane marker to about 17.1.15 or so to fix this
-Pro; 54.1: Notes go off screen during lane shift, I would say to wrap this by putting the C in the G/C chord before to C3 instead of C4 and then adding a G2-B3 range marker on it before the jump down to C2-E3
-Pro; 62.1: Also goes off screen here, move the lane marker to about 61.1.15 or so to fix this
-Pro; 114.1: Same as 62.1
Pretty sure I fixed everything here, but lane changes are still a bit new to me so I might be missing something.
Hard:
-Make sure the lane shift fixes from Expert are applied here as well
Easy:
-Also seems under-reduced, be sure to have it be 2ths instead of 4ths. Also seeing some pitch clashing here, remember that you don’t need to wrap stuff on Keys reductions as much as G/B so just keep the color progression the same as Expert for the most part
___
VOCALS:
-Make sure the [play] markers and such don’t appear on top of notes, the game could misinterpret them as lyric events and glitch out potentially
-65.1, make sure the phrase marker here is extended to 66.1 on all parts it is on, otherwise the harmonies won’t score correctly as they are outside of a phrase
-18.1, “down” should slide up from C to D
-20.3, “screams” starts a bit too early and finishes the slide up to F a bit too late
-23.1, “+” is about a 12th too long
-25.1.50, “+” seems a 16th too short
-27.3, etc.: the slide here seems slightly off sync, think the slides should start earlier
-28.1, etc.: “drown” appears to be a 16th or 8th too short
-37.1, etc.: “They wanna get” should be moved back a 64th
-40.1, “I aint” is also a bit sloppy, also I think “aint” should be written as “ain’t”
-41.2, etc.: “a” should be a F
-42.1, etc.: “time” should probably be a talkie, either that or slide quickly down to F
-56.1, “wired” should be split into two notes, “wi- red”
-59.1, “out” should slide up from D to F quickly
-61.2, “+” should start a 16th earlier, it can end where it currently ends though
-106.1, I think “Gold” is sung an octave up here’
Applied all of these changes.
Harmonies:
-65.1, think “in” might be a bit too long
-106.1, think “Gold” should be charted to HARM3, while HARM1 and HARM2 sing “house” in the same way as 82.1
I disagree about moving the “Gold” – it sounds to me like the backup vocals still sing “house” while the lead sings the higher “Gold.”
Thanks for the in-depth review!
Sorry all – I didn’t realize it would be such a hassle with me moving the date. I picked the original date because I thought the chart was 99% there and didn’t get much playtest feedback before Lyra’s. Given that most of the comments were minor changes I kept on under the idea that I would not have to do much else to get the song release ready. Then Lyra did a more extensive playtest (thanks again) and there wasn’t a -ton- of stuff in there, but definitely things that needed to be fixed before the official release. Problem is, I knew I wouldn’t have time to make all those changes before release day so I moved my song out. By the time everyone realized it was already too late even if I did manage to rush in all the changes. I just didn’t want to risk releasing a song with errors.
I made two critical mistakes here – submitting my playtest too late and moving the song without permission. I am really sorry for the inconvenience and will make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Thanks for the review, please elaborate on these:
-OD markers sometimes seems a bit long on the instruments, it should usually-Reaper: If possible, have theI will work on fixing everything else in the meantime.
Just a suggestion after looking at the RPP. I don’t think the guitar should be marked as a solo at 45.4.00 and the other similar parts. Since its being played after the choruses and it’s just a small little jam, not really a guitar solo in my opinion. Especially since it happens more than a few times. They will be removed for the final version.
V2 is up, contains all fixes to things brought up thus far.
Edit: I used all the CAT capitalization tools and it wanted me to capitalize all the “be- fore you steal it” lines, which seems strange but since they are all separate phrases in the song it probably looks better that way. Maybe the phrasing needs to be changed a bit; hopefully someone here can give a final word on that.
I added Dry Vox, changed it to Blues Rock, and extracted the official Xbox_PNG files from other Black Keys DLC. Waiting on any other MIDI suggestions before releasing V2.
Gonna give this a propper test soon-ish, though I noticed it appears there are no sustains on Guitar? The final note and some of the notes in the solo’s sound sustained to me, yet they aren’t charted as suchAlso, for vizualiser I would say to add in the subgenre of Blues there, so it says “Rock (Blues)”
I definitely missed some sustains in the guitar solo – adding those in for V2. I disagree about the final note – the guitar is a quick hit while the keys and bass keep it sustained. I will also change it to the blues theme for release. Thanks!
It wasn’t too long – I was finishing up the OD on my new song this morning and got hung up on the part in the docs that says to use the U command. I’ve done Unisons without it a macro before, but the engineer in me couldn’t leave the problem unsolved. I looked at a few of the other custom commands to see how it was done, the rest was trial & error.
