I figured out this problem!

 

I was hitting Control+Shift+S to do a ‘save as’, which is the standard keyboard shortcut in Adobe products and other software I use. Reaper was splitting items with that shortcut, so I can only imagine that’s the problem.

I tried hitting 7, nothing happened.

 

Yes, the RBN pack was installed. The Q shortcut has been working fin until this point

 

Look at the pic below, as you can see I was able to create almost half the song before the software decided to stop working. I can’t select anything anymore, the MIDI piano roll at the bottom only goes to the 26th measure and stops.

 

Are there any more updated tutorials that deal more specifically with this version of Reaper? I’ve spend hours on this project without getting past the basic first steps, then something goes wrong and I have to start over again and again.

Ok, now I understand what was happening! I must have gotten ahead of myself with the tutorial.

 

I’ve downgraded and my tempo got weird so I’ll have to do that again, but I think I’m on the right track.
