I saw this topic, and I couldn’t let TrojanNemo in total ignorance about Extreme ! ( I even registered for it xD )

Well, have you ever heard of Nuno Bettencourt ? To me, he’s one of the best guitar player in the world.

If you don’t know, you asbolutly have to check Dramagod “Love” album

Extreme is a funk-metal band formed by Gary Cherone, Pat Badger, Nuno Bettencourt and Kevin Figueiredo ( at he moment ). In the late 90’s, Mike Mangini toured with them. I think if they had released their first album sooner, they would have been way bigger. This album is called “Extreme”, and it ends with “Play with Me” that you may know from Guitar Hero.

I think the hardest song to play on guitar ( I do play guitar, so I can tell ) are Teacher’s Pet, Mutha Don’t Wanna Go To School Today ( you have to listen to the intro of the song !! ), Rock A Bye Bye ( pretty long solo ) and obviously Play With Me.

Then comes “Pornograffitti”, the album you know for More Than Words. This one is a complete masterpiece on guitar. Decadence Dance, Lil’ Jack Horny, When I’m President, Get The Funk Out, Money In God We Trust, It’s A Monster, Pornograffitti, Suzi Wants her All Day Sucker, Flight Of The Bumblebee ( actually the intro to He-Man Woman Hater ) … There’s a few quieter songs : Hole Hearted, Song For Love, When I First Kissed You and More Than Words.

Then you have III Sides To Every Story, which is actually composed of 3 parts.

First one, “Yours” has the most complex songs of the album ( according to me, of course ). Warheads, Rest In Peace, Politicalamity, Colour Me Blind, Cupid’s Dead ( you do have listen to this one, I think there’s a live version with Nuno and Paul Gilbert at Guitar Wars ), and Peacemaker Die.

Second part, “Mine” has quieter songs : Seven Sundays, Tragic Comic, God Isn’t Dead. Our Father and Stop The World are in the middle : quiet but with a real hard-rock sound.

The last part “The Truth” is a 20min long song which is sometimes cut in 3 : Rise ‘n Shine ( sound a lot like a Beatle song ), Am I Ever Gonna Change ( really nice ) and Who Cares.

Next, you have Waiting For The Punchline. You can really hear grunge influence there. The album is very well-know of guitarist because of Nuno’s sound. He used Padauk Washburn N4 which I really rare today. The sound it procures is really between a Les Paul and a Stratocaster.

If you have to listen to only one song of this album, I would recommand Midnight Express ( there’s a live video in HD on youtube ). You can also check out Cynical, Hip Today, Unconditionally ( a ballad ), and Fair Weather Faith ( beware at the end there’s a blank and then Waiting For The Punchline, a “hidden” track ).

In 2008 they release Saudades de Rock, the album I like the less. You can listen to Star, Comfortably Dumb, Run ( this one is really nice ), Interface ( a lovely ballad ) and Last Hour.

If you have time, I would recommand you to listen to every album in their totality, but if you must choose one, listen to Pornograffitti ( and then III Sides to Every Story haha ).

There’s also a few bonus song they release on a bonus album called Extragraffitti. You really should listen to Strutter ( you can find it on youtube, and yes it’s a Kiss cover … and I actually prefer Extreme version ) and Never Been Funked.

Then let me talk a bit about Nuno’s work. In 1996 he release “Schizophonic”, and this album is just amazing. You should listen to Gravity, Crave, Pusuit Of Happiness, Confrontation, Note On The Screen Door, I Wonder and Hop The Train. Nuno sings and plays guitar on this album.

Then there’s “Mourning Widows”. I don’t know really well this album, but All Automatic, Paint The Town Red and The Air That You Breathe are awesome. On “Furnished Souls For Rent” you have to listen to Monkey Paw.

Then there’s “Sessions From Room 4”. It’s a 5-tracked album. You should hear it in its totality. Nuno here plays every instruments.

Then there’s Population 1, you have to listen to Flow, Spaceman, QPD and Sick Punk.

Finaly, there’s Love by Dramagods ( in fact it’s Population 1 but they had a copyright problem ). To me, the album is totaly awesome. But if you just wanna listen to a few songs, go with S’OK, Sky, Interface ( yeah, it’s this song which is covered on Saudades de Rock ), Replay, Lockdown, Bury You and Megaton.

Then there are still a few rare tracks. “Beefly Jam” from Young Guitar 2001, Too Much Of A Good Thing and 60% Masturbation are the song you need if you wanna chart some hard songs.

I know I’ve wrote a little bit ( ), but I hope you’ll take some time to listen to a few songs and if you like it, chart it ( I’d love to see all Extreme’s album + Love album + Too Much Of A Good Thing charted ^^ ).

Please excuse me for my bad english, and thank you in advance
