Hello all! I’m new to this whole “custom content” thing… New to any form of “modding” in general, honestly.

My problem seems to be that whenever I am trying to load the custom content, it stops at #18 and then the entire console freezes. I went through the flash drive, deleted what appeared to be track #18, and tried again… Same thing, froze at #18.

I have an XBox 360 Elite, 250GB. (not sure if this is even relevant or assists in troubleshooting in any way, but figured I’d throw it out there just in case…) My gamertag is loaded with Rock Band 3 achievements, though playing Rock Band 3 on this console never actually took place – I mostly played with my mom whenever I did play, on a separate console. Despite this, I went ahead and popped in the disk, did the update, calibrated, got everything going that needed to be going. I didn’t actually play, since I was intending on adding in custom content soon. I followed the guide’s instructions, deleted TU#5, replaced with TU#4, etc., etc., downloaded and plopped every custom content song into the “Saved Game” folder on Party Buffalo.

Everything seemed to sun smoothly when doing all of this, the only major problem I encountered was that it refused to load my content when I started the game. (In fact, I can’t even play the game, like I said, everything just freezes. Can’t even get back to the home menu on the dashboard!)

Some information that might be relevant/TL;DR:

360 Elite, 250GB; 32GB Sandisk flash drive; used Party Buffalo; no .rba files, all rb3con; started Rock Band 3 with custom content on an account without any LIVE access; attempted to load 256 songs, crashing at 18; anti-virus, etc. disabled during this process, as I have read it can cause problems.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I spent over 4 hours trying to get this to work last night, hoping to be able to play it then or even today, to have a bit of a mixture in my normal gaming escapades.

EDIT!: Still haven’t fixed this issue… I began thinking about this and decided to try to do some more research as to why this may not be working and read about the “256 bug.” When I downloaded all of these songs, I could have SWORE I downloaded over 350 songs. (At the time, just figured I looked at my PC screen wrong.) I attempted to place every song onto a 4GB flash drive I have and then proceed to move it to the 32GB flash drive using the XBox system settings. Two things: I noticed that some of the songs came with a big orange !. When attempting to delete these, they either completely disappeared before I could even delete them or I was prompted with an error, saying that it could not be done. (Then deleted them anyway…??) Also, I attempted to load only 76 songs this time. Rock Band 3 recognized that it was 76 songs, but once again… The entire console froze during the “loading downloaded content” portion. This is driving me crazy! :ohdear:

note: great community going here, though, by the way. Love it! justwishiknewwhatiwasdoing

Have you only added C3 official releases or also other songs you found on the Web?

I have added C3 releases [from the directory and forums] and songs off the “keepitfishy” directory. I haven’t downloaded from anywhere else, though.

      I haven’t updated with this yet, but…:

After hours upon hours of trying to do this, my boyfriend took over, didn’t add ANY of the songs that had “rb3con” in the file name … (can’t see the extension [changed settings, still can’t see it, I dunno why], so I was just going by hope after trying to convert everything in RB3Maker… It said everything was already okay and good to go!) … and they work… Just I’m out of about 150 or so because he didn’t add in the songs on the flash drive that in the “rb3con” in the name.

When I attempted to convert songs on RB3Maker, I selected the entire folder with all of the songs in it. I assumed it would go through all of the songs and convert the necessary ones. (Read something as such that it would, too.) Do I need to go in and attempt to convert these songs over to rb3con one by one? Or if it has “rb3con” in the name, should it already be converted to the necessary file type? That’s what I figured, at least, and if that’s actually what’s happening, that’s kind of frustrating and confusing!

I intend on going through and trying just a couple of songs at a time once I get some sleep… Been a long six hours of annoyance, lol.

edit: not six hours, it’s been ten. -sigh-

We can only vouch for official C3 releases, meaning our Friday releases, the songs you can download off our blog or from our database (http://db.customscreators.com/). For other songs, if any charter compiled a faulty version, the game is gonna freeze on you, so you need to find and remove those songs.

        Right… -sigh- Oh well.

For future reference, though, am I able to convert .rba files to rb3con files from a folder entirely, or do I DO need to do it one by one? (From what I can tell, everything is already converted, but there’s no telling for in the future, I guess.)

You can batch convert but RBA files predate the current era of proper built customs (and so does RB3maker, though it works perfectly fine to convert RBA files). Chances are that if you find a number of RBA files, some of them will simply not compile properly, nowadays everybody compile straight to CON files with Magma C3. If you find files with no extension or with rb3con in the name, they don’t need any coversion.

You need to understand a few things:

            – Game files are in CON format, but they’re extensionless files. That’s why Windows doesn’t show you one, there is none. The “_rb3con” you’re seeing is just something we add to the files so you know it’s a CON file, but with or without that in the filename, it is fine.

            – .RBA files are what is created by the program we use to make the songs. If whoever created that song is using Magma: C3, it also converts the .RBA to CON, so you (the end user) never sees the .RBA file. You will need to convert .RBA files to CON before using them. To do that, get C3 CON Tools (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=211) and put all the .RBA files in one folder, open RBA to CON Converter and drag and drop one of the .RBA files there. It’ll detect all the .RBA files in that folder and convert them. Read the Help documentation included with it or see the lengthy tutorial video on how to use the Tools.

It will also be helpful in the future if you choose your words carefully. There is no “keepitfishy directory”. http://www.keepitfishy.com is my server, and virtually all customs and tools are hosted there, so when you say the “keepitfishy directory” it tells us nothing. If you mean the Customs Repository, there is a very lengthy post prior to getting to the link explaining how those are old songs and may or may not be broken and therefore freeze your Xbox. I would recommend staying away from songs in the Customs Repository until you’ve been playing with customs for a while and get the more basic things down.

A good bet is to stick to what is released by C3 on Fridays, as farottone said, and what is released in our forums under the Other Customs board. I think most of what’s there will work without crashing your Xbox, although obviously C3 can’t vouch for customs not released through C3 as far as quality.

Thanks for the tips and information. I’ll keep all of this in mind.

Sorry for not choosing my words carefully…? Like I said, I’m completely new to this and simply went by what the webpage title said it was when explaining what I was using. x: I didn’t mean anything offensive if that’s what it came out as…

It didn’t. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> Just stick to C3 releases and songs from the Other Customs subforum and you’re good to go. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

People just to add something to the thread, i had exactly the same problem just 30 minutes ago, and yes it was because I downloaded some songs from the database.

So there are some files corrupted there, it not worth the scare.
