Will it ever be possible to play customs on PS3 without modding it?

I really want to play them but I don’t want to mess up my PS3 and I don’t have an Xbox 360. I just wondered if it will ever be a possibility.

      Nope.

Sounds like your best bet is likely Phase Shift.

If you want to play actual Rockband, the Wii route is likely your best bet.

Your best bet is to get an Xbox 360 – no console modding required and instruments are cheap to pick up. Thats what I did and I havnt regretted a single second with all these great customs available <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />

Yep, I played on PS3 and was happier getting an Xbox 360 than modding my main console and dealing with the increased hassle. That route has its own issues of course.

            I prefer Xbox 360 over PS3 myself so… Ye’h. I have RB3 for the X360.

It is possible, but not that easy like on 360.

Since the PS3 security is broken, we can create our own 100% legit dlc files. This files will work on a unmodded PS3. But our main problem is to install it on the PS3 hdd. There is a tool (pexploit) that allows to install files to a PS3 hdd backup, you can then restore this Backup to your and PS3 and you have your custom dlc.

here is a video where someone uses this software to add mods for a game (MW2) this will also work for Rock Band 3

You need to dl the customs as 360 con version and convert them to ps3 in c3contools with Type 3 encryption enabled (this is important or it won’t work)

Then you need to create the folder “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/” (BLES00986 if you are pal eu) and put your songs into this folder. Then simply follow the video.

The big disadvantage of this method is, you need to redownload all you bought games and dlc from psn store. No Problem with a fast internet connection.

Will custom songs work online using the method mentioned above?

I was wondering, with proper song id, will online play work using this method? I’m just curious, considering we can play customs on last updare on PS3. I have 2 PS3s, one official and one CFW.

EDIT: Also was wondering if that was possible with a full backup, not having to redownload any content.

            #449521

Why don’t you just try? Just keep a copy of the original backup. First try it like the guy in the video and if that works try it with a full backup.

Customs should work online. I can’t try because i’m on cfw and won’t risk a online ban.

On PS3 the customs work only with proper song id. if you convert a 360 custom with c3 tools, you get a PS3 custom with proper song id. The problem is this id is generated and i don’t know if this id is random.

We got around this problem on wii (kinda), I guess the IDs works the same way on PS3. I’m really curious about this. If anyone with OFW that has the balls to test this out too, let’s try online play.

Since this post got brought back up I’m just going to give an update and say I bought an Xbox 360 and RB set up for it and I have not regretted it once. I’m loving customs!! I’m just having to redownload my DLC a little at a time.

I tried it, but I think I need to place the rap file somewhere.

In other words all I did was ”injecting” the custom and here’s what happened: Song dta loaded fine; song is the list; however, when loading it, it skips it. I think it’s because I haven’t ”purchased” the free pack (I did with my account, but since this method don’t save dlc…). I tried downloading the free pack again, but it overwritten the dta as expected. I’m wondering where should I put this rap file, if possible. (The rap file comes with c3 con tools, it has to be renamed, as mentionned in the PS3 custom tutorial, if you didn’t bought the pack, and has the be installed with CFW, which of course is out of the question in this case)

EDIT: Did some research because I’m a PS3 noob. Turns out I’d need a riff file that I could extract from my backup, if I had a way to get my console ID. IDPStealer does not work, sony patched it. Unless there’s another way to make the game believe I purchase the pack, I don’t know what to do. Any ideas?

            #449580

Of course you need to “buy” and install the free song pack before you create the hdd backup. You can not install any rap/riff files on a unhacked PS3, this is just for CFW. And like i wrote above make sure that you convert a 360 custom with type 3 enrcyption. Don’t use the existing PS3 Customs!

That’s the thing. I did (I did a couple of years ago).

The backup utility wont extract it, I need my IDPS. So everytime I use this method it’S as if I lose it.

I did convert it in type 3.

I need a way to either extract the ”Reciept” of the back from my backup, or to create one.
