The game went out with some problems because of management and business reasons. They had commitments to fulfill and probably investor pressure. Knowing they could provide patches, it wasn’t necessarily a bad strategy.

In a very general sense, playtesters provide feedback on game design and features and are utilized much earlier in the process. QA provides feedback on bugs.
That’s a valid point, too. I read the post as them wanting, well, QA people, but it’s probably more along the lines of playtesters for focus testing.
