January 21, 2014 at 5:13 pm #412647The issue with the Les Paul controllers is that the neck has a design flaw. Its made to be removable for easy transportation, but the problem lies in the fact that the the neck part of the controller is plagued with two design problems that I’ve personally seen over the years:
1) The neck piece has contacts that sometimes were faulty, causing the buttons to have delay or even not work at all. Thankfully, I’ve come across several PS3 controllers, which, funnily enough, the necks fit perfectly in the 360 guitars. The only actual difference is the fact that the PS3 neck has the buttons labeled with the corresponding shapes found on the face buttons of a PS3 Dualshock 3 controller (Xâ—▲■).
2) The neck often sits too high, or sits too loosely in the slot where its housed for play due to a manufacturing flaw. The neck can also become loose from extended use and wear. This means there will be times during intense play where you’ll be holding down any given button, but the controller won’t register that, because the pins aren’t touching the contacts completely.
This can be fixed very easily by applying dots of solder to the contact points inside the neck. Here is the video showing the fix. I’ve done this to 2 Les Pauls worked great.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjJHEVEo_qo
Thanks! Good tips there, I’ve got three Les Paul guitars that will be getting this treatment tonight.
January 21, 2014 at 5:30 pm #412648I guess only pictures would do it justice but…Yep……need to see pics/video!
January 21, 2014 at 5:51 pm #412650Not sure if others do this with the RB microphone. Essentially now I can connect any microphone to the usb dongle I made out of a chopped RB mic.
Setup. Gets loud.
Drums!
Sadly RockBand parties have slowed down. I’m in the process of finishing this format.
As for mercuryshadow09, that makes no sense why customs would be more sensitive to the piezo than an official release.
Yeah I know it doesn’t but it’s real man trust me. As for the mic, I got those Blockhead mics and they use a 1/4 inch jack so I just ripped the 1/8 jacks off of my Singstar mics and plug them into the Blockhead box which is USB, you can use any mic with a 1/4 jack!

Ion set that I upgraded all the sensors to 35mm piezos with homemade kick trigger.

Just the room itself. A work in progress. Want to hang the guitars on the wall at some point. Yes that is a disco ball in the top left hand corner.
January 21, 2014 at 8:16 pm #412659Disco ball is awesome Bryon, wish I had one!
February 25, 2014 at 7:44 am #414705My setup (thanks to some members) consist of
Roland TD-4 with double bass pedals
3 mic stands with 3standard USB guitar hero/rock band microphones with windscreen/pop filters on them
1 rock band wired 360 guitar
I have a couple more microphones as a *just in case* but I wouldn’t mind grabbing a few more and or doing the XLR route.
March 6, 2014 at 5:25 pm #415176Hello All,
Been working on authoring a song (The Band – Don’t Do It (The Last Waltz version)) so I was browsing the forums and saw this post so I made an account so I could share the setup that user “Maybe Towelie” and I play on. Most of the stuff is Almost Towelies.
Guitars: Madcatz Wooden Stratocasters
Drums: Ions with roland snare and tom, Pintech Cymbals, Alesis DM5 brain
Microphones: 2 Shure SM58’s, 1 Shure PG58, Art Splitcom Mic Splitters
Speakers: JBL 15″ Full Range and 18″ Subs
PA: Crown Amps, DoD eq, Alesis Mixer, JBL crossover
Lighting: RB fog machine, daisy chained RB fog controller units, Standard Rope lights, 4 RC LED Lights.
We play most Saturday nights, 9 sets of 7 songs. We keep a spreadsheet of all songs, number of times weve played each, when the last time was that we played each, and a few other metrics to help ensure fresh setlists every week. Rule is we don’t play a song more than once every 2 months (with a few exceptions). Keeps things fun and efficient. If you’re in West Central Ohio and wanna play, let me know!
March 6, 2014 at 6:05 pm #415184Suh-weet.
March 6, 2014 at 6:17 pm #415186Yep, I saw that on Reddit. Great stuff man. Great stuff.
March 6, 2014 at 6:50 pm #415189Very nice! It’s similar to my setup except more spacious and better sound equipment. I have four stage kit lights daisy chained, but one of the pods is inconsistent. Using two strobes/foggers as well. Also using the SM58’s and they are fantastic.
Compliments on your methods of choosing songs. I also dislike repeating songs, which equates to some bickering with the people I play with on Saturdays.
Is Don’t Do It a full band custom? I’ll definitely be on the lookout for that. And if you’re ever in SE Michigan on a Saturday afternoon, let me know.
March 6, 2014 at 10:29 pm #415199I am not mapping keys, even tho Garth was one of the best rock keyboardists that has ever lived. Just never play them so i dont care to map them. I have everything else mapped though, will walk through compiling tonight. It will be Expert only on g/b/d. I am VERY excited for it to be finished and to play it. It has been my favorite song for the past 2 years or so….
SE michigan eh? Route to see how far you are from Celina, OH. If you all are willing to make a road trip, the beer is on us!
Was thinking about daisy chaining more of them together, but I am pretty sure 3 is about the limit before the power from the one pod/board starts to not be enough to power the rest. The 4 remote control LED lights do everything we need them to though. The biggest real need now is to have one of them at least, in order to control mic, the fogger, and to wire the select button to a foot pedal (yamaha keyboard pedal) via a long length of speaker wire – we do this in order to set off vocal overdrive. We put the pedal at the foot of the singers mic stand.
Thought about doing 2 fog machines too, but man one of them is hard enough to keep running, let alone 2. They are becoming a very rare commodity these days.
March 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm #415219You are just under 3 hours from us. Not entirely un-do-able, but would have to be part of a larger trip I think. I have the fog machine, but due to the controller issue being wired and all, we dont use it anymore. I think yours is the first setup that has rivaled ours.

I think yours is the first setup that has rivaled ours. When the last DLC came out last year, we did a top 100 dlc of all time (our own rankings) day on a Saturday. Was fun, we had a big bonfire of broken tvs, guitars, fog machines, amplifiers, monitors, etc…, accumulated from the years of playing. Also had a cookout and such. Was a great time.
This year the top 100 day is May 3. You should see if some of you can make it down for it. You don’t have to be there for the entire like… 14 hours if you don’t want to though ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> It would be good to have a crew play some of the songs to give us a breather ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

The spreadsheet is a great way to keep the sets fresh, and also maximize the time you have of actually playing instead of scrolling through songs picking stuff.
Here is a link to our setlist if you want to use it as an idea starter or a template to fill in your own data.
