I’d completely forgotten this thing existed, but I’ve seen this for sale today on various sites, watched a few demo videos and have read a couple of reviews. There doesn’t seem to be many ‘die-hard’ fans speaking out about this thing.

I think you guys are the most knowledgeable people on this hobby so what do you think? Does anyone have it, do you enjoy it? Is it annoying after a while? Please share your experience with the stage kit.

My curiosity is killing me, I’m probably just going to buy the thing.

Buy it if it’s a good price. I will share my experiences when I get on the desktop. Definitely worth owning though how much use it gets depends on a lot of factors.

Agree with TrojanNemo, it adds to the RB experience in cool ways!

If you dont want it, pm me where you found it. I’d like one.

          OK. I’m back.

So, I personally love the stage kit. If you use the fogger and daisy-chain the lights, you can achieve a very cool effect in a dark room.

This is a very old video I made while playing at a friend’s house. As you can see I have three light pods “daisy-chained”. If you can get your hand on some of them, it’s a great idea as one alone isn’t that powerful.

          – best around 2:00

The other advantage of the stage kit is it can be used with a Windows computer. I’ve successfully used it at parties that had nothing to do with Rock Band :excited:

          There are downsides, however.

First, some of my friends can’t stand the fogger. They claim it hurts their eyes, so I can’t really use it too much. That’s even after I cut it with distilled water, as the full strength fog liquid is way strong. You can play with the LED lights without ever turning on the fogger itself, there’s two switches on the back of the unit. Or you can cut it with distilled water and manually turn on and off the fogger.

Second, it may set off fire alarms, specially if you don’t cut it with distilled water. At my last apartment we had to cover the fire alarm so we could play :what:

Last, and this is the biggest problem: it takes up a player slot. So you can’t play full band while using the Stage Kit. You can do any three instrument combination, but one slot will go to the stage kit, which is a major flaw in my opinion since this is best used with a full house of players. What you can do there, is do as I mentioned above and control it manually with a laptop. You can have someone dedicated as the stage kit guy/girl, manually controlling it, or just set some pattern you like and go with that.

This is me controlling it manually with my laptop while running a full band set up:

EDIT for clarification: You can do “full band” if you consider that to be guitar, bass, vocals, drums. I don’t. I consider “full band” to use the game to its maximum, which involves guitar, bass, keys, three harmonies and drums. You can’t do that.

I bought three at local Gamestops for $15 each :excited: Gave one away to a buddy, and I think I ended up selling one. So I got one fogger and two light pods now. Still functions perfectly :c00l:

If you’re looking at a price similar to that, get it. Even if you don’t want them, you can resell them for a profit or to help out fellow RB players :excited:

Well, you use the control head as the singer’s game pad. So it doesn’t really take up a spot that wouldnt already be taken by another type of controller for the singer if you didnt have a stage kit.

I really don’t care for it.

Well I consider full band to be on AIM so I can have all instruments. No mic controller. No AIM with stage kit.

Thank you all for your feedback, I’m definitely moving forward with a purchase.

@Lynxis – once I have mine secured I’d be happy to share with you any other leads I come across.

@TrojanNemo – I think you got a tremendous deal on yours. I’ve seen them as low as $30 and I’m comfortable paying a bit more than that even. I think you’ve not only convinced me to get one, but TWO. Thanks again.

That’s actually great news, thanks for clarifying the ‘player slot’ issue, that is precisely how we play the game as a group – the bass player switches to keys for some songs – so we can still maintain 100% participation and add the lighting kit to our show. So we’ll just have the singer use the light controller for her avatar.

If anyone else has any experiences to add, please do!

It’s been my experience that the kit is awesome and adds a lot to the atmosphere. If I ever see another cheap I’m grabbing it for daisy chain action. Over on Docs Rock Band Mods http://www.docsrockbandmods.net/viewfor … 5790a599c7 there are ways to link a wired controller through the led matrix/controller case.

I see two people selling them on ebay right now. Not sure if I want to cough up 100 dollars on this right now but sure looks like something to keep an eye on.

I saw this ages ago and was really interested, then I read it works only with RB2? Is that incorrect information?

No, it works with RB3 and customs too.
