Guardians of the Galaxy… For the 5th time. Love that movie. It lived up to every expectation I had for it.
October 25, 2014 at 9:24 pm #431663Watched a film called Killing Bono, about a band starting at the same time as U2 and them always getting overshadowed by the success by U2 (often due to their vocalist refusing to collaborating with Bono) and then escalating to ridiculous degrees which shouldn’t come as a surprise with the title
To my surprise, it was actually really good despite never having heard of it and the title of the movie making it sound like a terrible Kill Bill spoof film. It’s a drama comedy that is actually comedic and have actual dramatic moments that aren’t just “annoying people doing annoying things”, so I really enjoyed it. The thing have a bit of a Spinal Tap vibe to it, though not being directly a mockumentary or a pure comedy it is mixed into a pretty well done “searching for rock stardom” story that manages to come up with enough new plot points and events in the film to keep it interesting throughout even if the story structure itself is nothing new
I recommend it to anybody who have a fondness of movies about rock music and the music industry struggle, really solid work with many great moments in it
November 8, 2014 at 2:21 am #432450Last week I went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at my local cinema.
It was entertaining.
November 14, 2014 at 6:25 pm #432881The last two I watched were The Conjuring which was GREAT and I also saw Snowpiercer which was kind of weird, weird enough that it was never shown in theaters, lol.
November 17, 2014 at 4:38 am #433036John Wick and Interstellar. Many tears were lost.
December 2, 2014 at 11:53 pm #433837Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever
I wrote a much lengthier and rambling review of this film on the Rock Band forums, but I’ll post a quicker one here.
We have a film based off an internet meme that the media is convinced the internet didn’t lose interest in several months ago, and they decided that instead of having a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that worked, they just went full-on meta to the point where it actually looks like it’s insulting the audience for watching the film, only to moments later actually advertise real merchandise. The film only has a few lines that might cause a quiet giggle, and the rest is just painful to watch. The acting for the most part is fine, but Grumpy Cat’s voice acting lacks the comic timing and delivery that would make a dry performance like this work; I blame the script for this, though.
Overall, it panders to the audience way too much, and it’s sense of humor is just lost among the film pointing out it’s own clichés and reminding the audience that they should so totally buy some Grumpy Cat CDs and T-shirts. A movie that insults it’s audience like this is not a pleasant viewing experience, and it’ll most likely cause actual grumpiness; not in a joking way, as in it may actually put someone watching it in a foul mood. Also doesn’t help that the movie is not really subtle at all. If only I could summarize this film’s sense of humor in an image macro…
That works.
1/10
December 16, 2014 at 6:40 pm #434651Been catching up on some superhero flicks…
Thor 2 (3D) – Awesome, saw a couple bad reviews but now can’t figure out what they were thinking.
Winter Soldier (3D) – Awesome
X-MEN First Class (2D) and Days of Future Past (3D) – watched back to back and was better than expected
Jack Reacher – Tom Cruise movie that took me by surprise – Recommended
December 26, 2014 at 4:34 am #435223Watched “The Interview” just now.
I’m not into these kinds of comedies, and as such didn’t plan to view it initially. However, after all the controversy surrounding it, I couldn’t help but be swept up in the hype. I still didn’t think it was going to be any good, but I was somehow still let down. This big, controversial thing that has an entire country riled up (and the US scurrying to go see it) doesn’t really have that much of a bite. If it weren’t for the whole ordeal surrounding it, with Sony getting hacked, threatened, etc., this film wouldn’t really have anything going for it.
Then again, my reasons for not liking it are entirely subjective. This is very much a “bro” comedy, something that I stopped enjoying four years ago. It’s essentially a collection of gross-out gags interlaced between segments of very light satire and cheap fanservice. This really isn’t the kind of film I typically enjoy. I did, however, laugh at a few of the jokes, and at least the performances and production were good (save for some really lousy gunfire effects; seriously, the ones in this film are the ones I used in a high school class). Overall, though, I found it underwhelming and it did not live to the little amount of hype I may have had for it.
If you’re into movies like The Hangover or This Is The End, then this film is for you. Otherwise, you have no reason to see it unless you view it as a symbol of free speech, and wish to support it on that aspect.
December 26, 2014 at 1:34 pm #435239The Last full movie I watch was School Of Rock
December 27, 2014 at 9:53 am #435300The Shawshank Redemption was on tv when I was browsing the channels and even though I own it on DVD, I cannot not watch it.
With al the horrid things happening there is still a lot to like and feel good about. Nothing earth-shattering story- or action wise, but a great movie nonetheless.
In short: It’s a tale of a man being sent to prison and coping with that fact and his new surroundings.
For those three people in the world who haven’t seen it yet, I won’t spoil anything and just say: watch the Shawshank Redemption.
Also: we might need Johnny Otis in Rock Band.
December 27, 2014 at 11:34 pm #435331Re-watched Jingle All The Way, some minor problematic jokes aside it’s still a fun watch and nothing says holiday seasons like hearing Arnold go “poot dat cookie dawn!”
December 27, 2014 at 11:41 pm #435333Watched “The Interview” just now.If you’re into movies like The Hangover or This Is The End, then this film is for you. Otherwise, you have no reason to see it unless you view it as a symbol of free speech, and wish to support it on that aspect.
My friends convinced me that This is The End was the best movie ever, we watched it at my house and I absolutely HATED it. Thanks for the advice gigs, I’ll probably stay away from The Interview.
December 29, 2014 at 3:14 pm #435382Last movie I saw wasssss, The Lego Movie in 3D.. i bought it when it came out, but waited to see it with Dad, I guess he was putting it off because Lego is ‘childish’ but I’ve played most of the Lego games and they are quite funny, I was only worried about Will Ferrell, because both me and dad don’t enjoy him, and also I am not a fan of that everything is awesome song.. but it was actually really really good, and I love the attention to detail, like the copyright numbers under each brick and little scuff marks and fingerprints..
It was really well done, and probably one of the best certificate U films i’ve ever seen, next to like.. Spongebob i guess… i mean, stuff like Scooby Doo and Pokémon.. most of those films are PG.. U films are pretty rare unless they’re super childish..
February 16, 2015 at 9:30 pm #438521Watched Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake today, and honestly… I like it better than the original
Call me a uneducated and low brow if you want, but what can I say? I want my horror movies to be horrifying, and while the original mostly bore me the remake is down right disturbing and disgusting, and that is what I like about it. It could probably benefit from being a bit less Rob Zombie-ish at times, sure, but it does it’s job and it does it well, using tension and a very real feeling look into a kids transformation from somewhat innocent child to faceless mass murderer to great effect without needing to rely on jump-scares, which is always a plus in my book.
Would I recommend it to everybody? Probably not, you need to have a strong stomach and probably an above average tolerance of pretty horrible behavior shown on screen, but if you can deal with that and want a horror movie that makes your stomach turn then it might be worth a try. Just be ready for some pretty sickening stuff (like, borderline Eli Roth/Harmony Korine levels of horrible imagery and dialogue)
February 17, 2015 at 1:24 am #438560Snowpiercer. And to think of the authoring I could have crammed in 2 hours…
