Being a film enthusiast of sorts, I tend to watch a lot of movies. Doesn’t matter if it’s good, bad, major releases or small-time indie flicks; love to watch them. Somewhat inspired by the Rock Band forums title of the same name, this is a thread for discussing whatever movies we’ve all last watched, and what our thoughts on them were.
Doesn’t matter really how you post about the film, really. Could be a lengthy analysis like I tend to do on the RB forums thread, or just a quick blurb about how fun/unfun the movie was. Though if you most discuss spoilers, please do so in a respectful manner; hide them so that one has to click to see them or something.
Anyway, discuss whatever movies you last saw below, and have fun!
August 28, 2014 at 4:23 am #428147Last couple I watched were The Fault in Our Stars (romantic dramady centered around cancer) and Escape From Tomorrow (Indie Horror filmed at Disney World without Disney’s permission or knowledge) I recommend both.
August 28, 2014 at 1:06 pm #428155I’ve recently watched Back to the Future, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Tangled. Just like Gigakoops, I love movies as well. I’m especially a fan of Disney and Adam Sandler movies (yes even the newer ones, except Jack and Jill though haha).
August 28, 2014 at 1:14 pm #428156Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Nothing to write home about.
August 28, 2014 at 5:11 pm #428165AnonymousThe LEGO Movie and Frozen.

September 2, 2014 at 11:17 am #428460Recently saw X-men Days of Future Past, was pretty decent but the Pentagon kitchen scene was EFFIN awesome! I saw Edge of Tomorrow the new Tom Cruise scifi flick, I wasn’t expecting a lot from this considering his last film but I was pretty surprised at this one and highly recommend if you are a scifi fan or just into time travel movies.
September 2, 2014 at 11:37 am #428461Re-watched Underworld for the first time in a long time, man is this a cheesy mess lol. I did notice the head-Werewolf kinda looked like a younger Lars Ulrich though, so it got rather entertaining by pretending the werewolves where all anti-piracy musicians and the vampires where Napster supporters ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
September 10, 2014 at 8:58 pm #428889I just watched Heat (Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, not the recent comedy film) for the first time in a few years and that movie is just as good as the first time still. I also recently saw Expendables 3, which for some reason ignores the cast we really care about (the classic guys) for the better part of the film. The set pieces are also rather generic. Mel Gibson gives a good performance in it when he’s on screen though.
The last movie I had the pleasure of finding on DVD when I was out on Saturday was Carlitos Way. I like that film a lot.
September 10, 2014 at 9:08 pm #428893I recently watched the oh so many memories classic, Wayne’s World. I also recently watched Twister (Got somewhat of a obsession with severe weather. I do live in Georgia, U.S.A. after all!).
September 29, 2014 at 2:58 pm #430164Watched a Norwegian slasher movie called Dunderland (and yes that sounds just as stupid in Norwegian as it does in English), and it was probably the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, and I have watched Birdemic all the way through.
The film is about a bunch of actors traveling to a log cabin in the woods to star in a stage play for the local village, and when they get there the director of the play act completely crazy. Instead of just leaving (they came by car and snow scooter), they stay and basically just party while the director of the play sits in her room and acts suspicious instead of writing the play. Long story short, everything turns out to be a exceptionally lame version of The Shining where everything happens because of witch burnings in the area in the olden days, no atmosphere and just lazy jumpscares with little to no build up, no believable actions from the characters, terrible acting, horrendous camera work and editing, and a completely ridiculous ending that gives no answers to anything. Also, random hallucination scene for no good reason only as an excuse to show a Nazi orgy, because apparently that is more important than a plot!
What is interesting though, as for how absolutely abysmal this film is in it’s finished state, it could actually have been a decent (if not excellent) slasher when looking at the deleted scenes. The DVD have a huge list of deleted scenes and, I swear I am not making this up, it appears they have cut out all scenes that contains important character establishment, plot points, foreshadowing, motivations for actions and even what appears to be a full subplot about cannibalism. What on earth where they thinking ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
So yeah, not recommended unless someone cobbles together a version with the deleted scenes (and adds English subtitles I suppose), because this is just… wow lol
October 7, 2014 at 8:43 pm #430608I watched the TV movie Houdini with Adrien Brody. Too stylized, not convincing enough, pretty average as a whole… and it had a HORRIBLE soundtrack.

I kind of went in expecting it to be sort of bad, but the fact that it’s a found-footage kid’s movie about an alien caught my curiosity. But having watched it, I actually found it pretty alright.
The film follows three friends who are all moving out of the neighborhood they live in due to a construction project. However, a few days before they have to move out, one of them has all the phones in his house acting up, with his iPhone showing some sort of weird map. The night before they move, they decide to investigate, as some sort of “last adventure.” And the film essentially follows these kids as they discover alien life and other conspiracies.
The first thing I noticed about this film is that while claiming to be found-footage, the cameras used to shoot the movie were obviously not the kind some kids would get ahold of (and for certain not the kind it shows the kids holding). The editing is also a bit too professional to be like that of a video put together by some kids, complete with screen caps of stuff on the computer and using Google Maps as transition points. Also, there is a lot of product placement in the film. While I can excuse this sort of thing most of the time, and most of the product placement in the film is non-intrusive, you’ll notice a lot of product names (like in the afore mentioned Google Maps transitions), and there’s one scene in the film where if it weren’t for a certain popular product, the alien wouldn’t be able to see, and I kind of had a laugh at that.
The characters are sort of archetypy, but they also aren’t entirely archetypes. Yeah, we have the nervous, smart, pudgy kid, the moody prebubescent boy, the sassy token girl (who joins them later), and the calm, collected leader. But at least these characters have traits that make them believable, at least for the most part; though the smart one is a bit smarter than one would typically believe. It’s also worth noting that the actors portraying these kids are pretty good actors, at least to the point where they can convey emotion convincing enough.
The movie in general has a “90’s family adventure film” vibe to it that I quite like. Essentially it’s some kids going on an adventure to find some pieces the alien needs, landing them in spots they’d probably otherwise not end up at; think something along the lines of The Goonies, only with aliens. Though the film also has a few parts that are so extravagent that it may break some people’s suspension of disbelief. Without going too far into spoiler territory, there’s one scene where they’re trying to be stealthy in getting footage, only there’s no way they could have been convincing enough to have gotten said footage, because of the mode of recording. There’s also no way nobody died in this film, due to certain events that happen whenever they get to what they need.
But despite the flaws, it’s got a childlike sense of adventure to it, and I’m sure younger audiences will dig it, and it’s not that bad for adults, either, unless you have an unrelating hatred for found-footage movies. The alien itself is cute enough, and the effects for the most part are fine. I like the adventerous feel of it, and it does have some interesting moments. It’s at least more than the average kid fluff, because it at least tried something different.
6/10
October 21, 2014 at 5:23 pm #431417Rewatched the Super Mario Bros Movie, still a highly entertaining film. Loads of fun jokes and gags, good action scenes and enough cheese to melt the brain of every 80’s action star in the world, still don’t see why it is so widely hated ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
Also that version of Walk The Dinosaur or whatever it’s called in the movie is awesome and someone with more time on their hands than me should chart it
October 23, 2014 at 3:16 pm #431520Most recently I re-watched Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks through livestream when it aired on tv
