Sorry for the newbie question, but after I finished building the song in magma how do I make it a con file and start playing it on rock band?
Magma should automatically create a con file.
If you’re using the right Magma (here), it will build the con itself and be ready to play.
Is the C3 file the con file?
No, the CON file is the CON file. It’s an extensionless file, so it will not say .con, it’ll just have the name of the project, without an extension.

I Must be doing something wrong then, when I click build song, it leaves me with a c3 file. not a con

Just sort your folder by date created and the last created file is what you need.
