I’m with Blooper on this one. Other than stems and pro G/B, I’d prefer everything else finished. Venue isn’t such a bug deal for me (I don’t do those yet anyway) but they’re nice to have. Same with practice sessions.

June 25, 2016 at 4:42 pm #470949Thanks to everyone who has replied.
A note about practice sections though:
I don’t know if many of you have actually tried using them, but personally I think for their utility they are very quick and easy to put in.
There is a list of practice sections in the RBN documentation.
I’m surprised I’m in the minority thats “in” to practice sections haha, does nobody use the in-game practice sections? I can’t even tell how many drum solo’s or odd beats it’s helped me learn.
If nobody else really uses them then I guess it’s just my skill lacking haha, for me there are some things in the game which absolutely have to be learned, there is no “playing-on-the-fly”
So obviously I just thought I’d post to generate some discussion on the topic, see where people are at, see at what level of detail I should release my customs, and also shamelessly encourage people to consider adding practoce sections for ME MUAHAHA no but seriously they’re easy to add and I think having your song nicely divided up into parts is quite satisfying for some reason (but then I’m OCD af)
June 25, 2016 at 4:45 pm #470950I knew if you saw this post you’d say that AJFOne23!!
I think it’s been established that classic rock charts have a more serious need for a venue, because of the musical configuration (lots of instrument breaks etc) so players have an opportunity to notice it more. Lot’s of epic potential too.
June 25, 2016 at 4:52 pm #470951All I need is FB with overdrive. No one I play with plays below expert so reductions mean nothing to me and I don’t care about venues or animations because I’d rather pay attention to the notes I’m trying to hit

June 25, 2016 at 5:26 pm #470954I’ll have to agree with Mango here, though I can understand if someone doesn’t have the time to do a custom venue (and as long as they don’t use Aggressive Metal for every song, seriously that theme is just silly ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” /> ). A custom venue gives life to the song, and gives those spectating at a party something to look at while waiting for their turn. It’s also easier for me to play a song when the lighting matches up with the music and such (and I mean moreso than an autogen venue provides, with static lighting and such), since it helps me keep time with the music myself.
I don’t expect everyone to spend several days fine-tuning every little detail in their customs, though I do prefer if the customs are full-band and have some sort of reductions. I play pretty much everything (except for pro keys, due to lack of a keyboard, and drums due to no longer having a set, though if I did I’d play them often), and I do prefer to be given the opportunity to play a song on any instrument I want, granted that it’s there in the audio. That’s why I personally strive to make my customs as close to DLC-quality as I can, so that everyone can play.
June 25, 2016 at 5:31 pm #470956That’s a good point about the party thing. As much as I might wish it, people aren’t always watching my drum lane to see how awesome I am. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
I will check the official RBN documentation about venues later, but I remember struggling with it a long time ago.
Does anyone have any tips on charting a custom Venue? What’s your process? I feel like the venue track is something that is very error-prone.

I’ve actually made a guide as to a method of venue authoring, that while it may seem a little complex at first, it actually makes it easier to edit the venue without all sorts of text events cluttering the one track. It’s highly recommended you read the authoring docs first, though.
As for practical tips for venue authoring, I recommend using moving and automated lighting cues a lot more than static ones, since they’re automatically synchronized to the song’s tempo, and look prettier (at least in my opinion). Of course, some songs work better with static lighting calls, just make sure to use plenty of “[next]” events to make the colors change position (of course, do this on time with the music), Also, if you use strobe lighting, never use any contrast video effects, unless you want to give everyone a seizure (see: “In Waves” by Trivium, an HMX-authored DLC track).
June 25, 2016 at 5:54 pm #470960Haha thanks, Imma take a look at it next time I’m on Reaper.
June 25, 2016 at 6:06 pm #470962Hahahaha, wtf, I’m howling at the FX preview video, there’s an effect called “shitty_TV” lol
June 25, 2016 at 6:16 pm #470963What’s the difference exactly between full band with venue and everything, and “DLC quality”? Just stems?
June 25, 2016 at 6:18 pm #470964Yup, sorry if that wasn’t clear I should’ve added “stems” in brackets or something.
Also regarding venue stuff, can you force what arena it’s played in? Or is it solely dependent on the player’s band’s popularity?
June 25, 2016 at 6:22 pm #470965I’ve already got some really cool ideas for some of my customs regarding venues, I guess this means I’ll hopefully be able to keep up the effort so they’ll see the light. I think as long as I have reliable assistance with the charts then it’ll be do-able (I’m hoping to get an Angels & Airwaves pack started if anyone’s interested)

There’s no way to force a type of venue, sadly. It’s entirely random, with more arenas unlocking the more popular your band gets (as well as music video venues, of course).
June 25, 2016 at 6:46 pm #470968Ahh poo. The huge concert venues look epic, and the dingy clubs look gash.
Although I now think you could probably make a venue fit a rockband song better, I still would’ve liked to have see music videos (think phaseshift).
What about you guys?
