Having some people over this weekend and firing up the 360, haven’t had a good RB party in a while. Checking to see what people of C3 do for rules/guidelines to keep the party rocking.
Thanks
May 6, 2016 at 8:27 pm #468217Depends on how cool the crowd is, but usually we try to rotate instruments as much as possible (to keep it fresh), and whoever is the singer (or singers) will pick the songs in the setlist. Sometimes we even have the rest of the band toss in a song they want the singer to sing (whether it’s a joke or whatever). Great stuff. Damn, now I need to set up another Rock Band party.
May 6, 2016 at 11:30 pm #468224We do a lot of categories and have folks come in advance with the song choices matching the categories. Past that, if you take too long to choose, you pick random and are allowed 2 vetoes. You sing the third random one no matter what…
Oh yeah…we use the Wunderlist app for this…pretty simple….

#1 – Singer chooses the song

When I play with mates, we go clockwise round the room. If the singer knows the song we do it, if not move on, or swap singers
May 7, 2016 at 12:48 pm #468240Going around the room clockwise is what me and my friends do, too. Whoever picks gets their choice of instrument. There’s also the unwritten rule of me getting relegated to drums.
May 7, 2016 at 12:52 pm #468241We all pick what instruments we are comfortable with, typically leaving me with Pro Drums or Voxtar. Whoever is lead vocalist picks song. If playing with a large group, get an external copy of your song list so people don’t spend forever scrolling through the game one

Yeah, mostly that. Pretty much everyone sings, though, so we rotate out and swap instruments as appropriate.
(Damn, but it’s been far too long since we’ve held an actual RB party!)

Every house I’ve ever played RB in through the years…this has always been the universal, unspoken rule.
May 7, 2016 at 3:35 pm #468253At my RB3 Party’s all band members play the same instrument I’m always drummer no one else can play them. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
We take turns of each member picking three songs.
If that gets boring we let RB3 Random choice take over.
May 8, 2016 at 5:42 am #468283A couple of questions.
1.What are your tricks/rules etc to get people to change instruments, especially those that don’t want to change or don’t want to sing or drum ?
2. What are some suggestions to get people to play new songs, instead of the same songs over and over? These same people play the same songs on the same difficulty level every time, which gets boring after a while. I like to challenge myself and play new songs, and up the difficulty level.

1. I try to pick songs that I know for a fact are really fun for that particular instrument, and try to convince someone to do it that way. Example: for some reason, all Huey Lewis songs are really fun on drums, so I would just convince someone to do it, and realizing how fun it is, it usually leads into doing at least one full set list. I try to tell people how much they’re missing out by not drumming.
2. Usually if someone gets fixated with certain songs, they’ll probably be open to other songs by that band, unless they’re totally stubborn. The Wide World of Customs has made it so that you almost never have to do the same song twice. Also, No Fail Mode will be your best friend, if it isn’t already. That way no one loses when you take a risk and change instruments/up the difficulty.

1. Never ever force somebody to play an instrument they don’t want to play. If the majority want to play a song but 1 person doesn’t then they sit out, the song is usually only a few minutes long so I’m sure they can wait, if they’re not willing to wait get better friends.
2. This is my biggest problem, I tend to stay away from a set-list as people are usually coming in and out of the room where we are playing and go “do you have?” or ” can I play” so a set-list is great when by yourself or with a few friends but at a party I would recommend playing tracks one by one. Usually with customs when a new party comes around I usually have a few new customs that matches someone tastes, go that person who picks the same songs and say “hey I got this now” it will usually get them to play it as well.
