Has anyone managed to use headset mics to work in-game?

I had a Logitech headset around, which I’ve used in a PC for skype meetings and such, and just for fun I tried to plug it into our PS3 to use it as a mic. It works in the game (mic only, not the headphones), but unlike regular microphones it also captures a huge feedback from the speakers, and it’s unbearable.

It would have actually been quite a nice idea to use it for singing while drumming or playing another instrument since it needs no hands or stand.

I am also stunned that you managed to make headset work with rb. But i think that the only way to play instruments and vocals is rb/gh/singstar mic on microphone stand :]

I didn’t exactly “managed to make it work”… I just plugged it in I think I read somewhere that the official Rock Band microphone was manufactured by Logitech, and I had a Logitech headset so…

I meant that everywhere on forums is said that xbox headsets won’t work with rb, nobody mentioned logitech so you kinda worked that out heh

If it’s USB pretty much any mic will work in the game. I’ve used Logitech headsets before, not the most practical but you can pretend you’re in a modern pop group!

Did you manage to avoid feedback from the speakers? I thought headset mics are generally designed to capture sound from a very close source, but my model is meant for pc use, not live performance so it probably can’t avoid or cancel farther sources of sounds.

But there obviously are headsets specifically designed for singing and playing/dancing at the same time. I wouldn’t mind to look a bit like a dork while playing and actually the image I had in mind is that of Phil Collins singing while drumming, which is otherwise difficult to arrange with a mic stand.

Anyway in my case the feedback was so loud that you really couldn’t tolerate. Admittedly I was quite directly in front of the speakers, but I doubt that changing positions and adjusting mic sensitivity would suffice.
