The last time I tried to integrate harmonies (at a convention, which didn’t work), it went like this:

Put TU4 on internal memory, along with harmony pack.

    Loaded disc songs, harmonies visible.

    Added hard drive back in.

    Added customs.

Injected TU5, which rebuilt library again, enabling Dani California/Black Hole Sun in the song cache.

Removed TU5 and injected TU4 again, allowing customs to be played.

USUALLY that allows the harmonies to work, but I may have stuck my extra pro guitar upgrades file on there, which tends to muck things up.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I seem to be running into some trouble. I tried to follow the directions but my game crashes when I try to start a song.

I am all very new to this, I haven’t even downloaded a custom. I just want to start by getting the harmony tracks on first.

Let me try to go into detail as to the steps I took.

I have 2 flash drives, one is 32gb and the other is 8gb. On the 8gb, I used Party Buffalo to place the dummy files and Title Update 4 on it. On the 32gb, I did the same, except I put Title Update 4 instead of 5.

I removed the hard drive from my Xbox 360 and put in the 8gb flash drive. I started Rock Band 3. I allowed it to build a cache, doing 2/2 content. I checked the songs, and they are showing with the keys upgrades and the harmony upgrades, but the music does not play and some of the album art is missing. I expected this as the instructions say that this would happen. I exited Rock Band 3 and go to the Xbox system settings. I put in the 32gb flash drive. I transferred the cache to the 32gb flash drive, and powered the Xbox off. I removed the 8gb flash drive.

I then put the hard drive back into the xbox. I boot up Rock Band 3 and allow it to build the cache. It goes through all my DLC (684 songs). When finished, I look through the songs list, and Dani California is showing up with harmonies on the TU4 version of the game. I exit the game, and return to the storage section to delete the dummy files.

I boot Rock Band 3 back up and try to play Dani California. Unfortunately, when I try to play it, the game freezes on me. Usually it happens right as the screen is going black to load the song.

What step did I miss or where did I make a mistake? Can anyone help me? Thank you.

In my experience, RBHP crashes can happen in three places, resulting from three typical causes.

Crash during initial cache build – this is almost always caused by an erroneous songs.dta entry (short one closing “)” for example).

Crash during song load animation (pre/post-fade to black) – failures during song load are almost always caused by a missing .mid but can also occasionally be caused by a bad upgrades.dta pointer (I think Dani California’s are okay).

Crashing during play (can also sometimes include not fading in from the fade to black) – these are normally caused by a bad .midi file — e.g. duplicate track name, missing track, empty track (erroneously including a HARM3 track with no notes/etc. when the song has two parts).

The file-related errors are almost always caught during my testing, because I review the songs 2-3 times in engine before release (as I sometimes have to make touchups, it could be more, but is always at least twice — an initial test, and the video capture session), so most of the time it’s caused by a bad packager run (sometimes happens) or a missing upgrade package (no _plus.mid, so the game hangs).

Are you sure you didn’t delete both RBHP files? You only deleted the dummy (the smaller of the two)?

I deleted both of the dummy files. Am I supposed to keep the larger file?

EDIT: I reinjected the larger of the dummy files and tried it out. It works like a charm. Thank you so much for the help!!!!

No problem. Only the small one is the dummy (it’s supposed to be labeled that way in-game too, but I think the file name is too long now). The rest contains the, well, upgrade files. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif”>
