Hello everyone, really looking forward to getting involved.
Been playing rhythm games for many many years, ever since guitar freaks appears in the arcades, then guitar hero and now here. Never authored before but I am really really wanting to get involved and share the creations with the others out there and to get the songs I feel they missed into the open.
With no further ado, here is my most recently created on, the same one that you probably noticed in the WIP thread I made. I stopped the updates there so that everyone could get the full version here.
Completed songs
files available Here
So please let me know what you think.
Reserved songs
Here are the songs that I am definitely going to be charting in the future, depending on if anyone has picked them up already of course.
Focus – Sylvia (Was a first attempt, got hung up on the drums, will now go back to it)
Autograph – Turn up the radio
The Feeling – Join with us, Turn it up, I thought it was over (3 pack)
I look forward to all of your feedback.
June 18, 2014 at 8:02 pm #422786I would like to sponsor “Stepping Out.” I recently put it on my to-do list, but sponsoring someone else’s project is a fine alternative. I will start a more advanced playtest later.
First thing I notice, though, is that the visualizer image is using the wrong album art. You have the single cover shown, when in C3 releases we always go for the album cover if the song has appeared on an album. It should look something like this.
Feel free to use this one, or do a Google Image search for a better quality one.
June 19, 2014 at 2:27 am #422816I downloaded the zipped file you linked to, but it only includes the rb3con and RPP. I do still have the audio for this song, but I was hoping to use the file you rendered for use in-game. I will take notes based on my audio file, though.
EDIT: Playtesting this song is taking much longer than anticipated. I will continue on my notes tomorrow, but as of now I need to go to bed.
June 19, 2014 at 7:56 am #422826You let me know what you need and I will get it on over to you, just to make sure that everything syncs up nicely.
To make it a little easier, here is a further RAR file with the music file included. Link
A couple of things I noticed playtesting with other people yesterday. There’s no character animations. I would have though that there would have been the drums and keyboard as I put the relevant notes into their finger positions but I guess there is something more that needs doing to get that working and I am a little stumped on that.
June 19, 2014 at 12:18 pm #422834There’s no character animations. I would have though that there would have been the drums and keyboard as I put the relevant notes into their finger positions but I guess there is something more that needs doing to get that working and I am a little stumped on that.Do you have appropriate [play], [idle], [mellow], [intense], and/or [idle_realtime] text events in the instrument tracks?
June 19, 2014 at 1:47 pm #422841I don’t, so I can only assume that is the reason for that. I shall make amends.
June 19, 2014 at 4:46 pm #422890CAT can lay down in an instant a pretty solid series of animation markers for all instrument. For fine tuning you’re gonna have to change markers for intense and mellow sections, but overall the Animations superset does a good job of creating drums and all other instruments animations. It takes 5 seconds to do that, and after that is done you can fine tune what’s needed.
June 19, 2014 at 6:22 pm #422896I tried getting CAT working because after all, I would like an easier life in all of this but for the life of me could not get it working. No matter what I did Reaper just kept telling me that it cannot detect a suitable python installation no matter what I try to do to get it to the right place.
I’ll give it another go, I suspect it may be down to using 64 bit reaper so might need a new install.
June 19, 2014 at 6:29 pm #422897Yup, just installed 32 bit reaper and now it works.
Give me a little bit and I shall polish it up a little, creating another file. The file I already have with the tracks probably wont change all that much.
June 20, 2014 at 8:16 pm #423058Okay, got another version with some of the above issues sorted. Correct album art, working animations.
This file is the new RPP and rb3con file.
June 20, 2014 at 9:23 pm #423063I regret to say that at this time I cannot sponsor the song. Unless the new version has some drastic chart changes, the current chart is too far from C3 standards that it would take too long for me to properly playtest and list off all the things that need changed, and it would most likely take a newcomer too long to fix all of the problems with the pro keys chart alone without starting from scratch.
I recommend spending more time on the Other Customs and WiP forums, getting yourself situated in the authoring process, then coming back in a few months or so. And who knows, maybe after some practice I’ll sponsor the song again and it’ll be more than fine enough to release.
PS: The latest files you send has a Magma project file, not a Reaper project file.
June 21, 2014 at 7:31 am #423122Thank you for your assistance.
If I may ask though, what are the glaring issues? What are the things that really are a problem with the charting that need fixing? This is after all my first completed following a second attempt and I don’t want to keep repeating the same mistakes.
I shall practice on a few other songs and go from there, see how they pan out
June 21, 2014 at 5:11 pm #423152This is all I wrote down for the pro keys playtest before I had to give up. I was going to upload several pictures of things I did to fix the chart myself, but at this time I haven’t gotten the screenshots done yet. Within a few hours I may edit this post to include them.
WARNING: This chart needs a lot of work before being ready for release. Below is a giant list of things that need fixed, as well as suggestions to make the chart the best it can be.GENERAL
– This track uses a drum machine, which means there’s only one tempo throughout. That tempo would be 160.04 BPM. You would just have the first tempo marker at the start of the project, and leave it at that.
– For an official C3 release, it is required for fade-outs to be “fixed,” or at least the song be shortened so that there is a definite “end.” I can make an audio file for you to use for future versions of the project, since I have a little experience with this myself.
PRO KEYS
Expert:
– Range shifts should be placed at the start of a measure, not how you currently have them in random spots mid-measure.
– All notes that are 1/8th of a measure long should be reduced to a 1/16th length. These will look bad in-game otherwise.
– As a personal piece of advice, I would keep things the same octave throughout the chart. This would make wrapping the higher chords much easier for you, and while the switching in octaves wouldn’t be accurately portrayed, the resulting chart would be more accurate to the real piano part than what you currently have. I will leave notes as if you are keeping them within the same ranges you currently have, though.
– M9, M17, when this part repeats – You had this more accurate in version 1, it seems you removed the highest notes in these chords. Please add them back in.
– M25, when this part repeats – I told you last version to add a Eb note and a C# note respectively on these chords.
– M41.3 – These 8th notes should be reduced to a 1/16th length. The following note should also be pulled back so that there is a 1/16th space between it and the following note.
– M43 – Also shorten this sustain so that there is a 1/16th space between it and the next chord.
– M44.3 – You should add a F#2 note here, making it a 1/16th length and ending the previous F#2 note 1/16th beforehand. On a real keyboard this would be on F#3, but that is outside of the current range, so you should lower it an octave. Also, the first three notes of this chord should be 16th triplet notes, not the currently-authored 16th straight notes. So it should look more like this:
– M57.4 – What you currently have charted is not only less notes than what’s being played, but also not remniscent of what is being played. This picture will show you what I hear being played (the final note is an octave higher on the real piano, but to keep within the current range I lowered it an octave).
– M64.3 – This should be a C#2 note.
– M84 – First two notes in this measure should be an F#2 note and a Bb2-C#3 chord respectively.
– M87.4-M88.1 – The timing of these notes are off. They should look more like this.
– M104.3 – Two 1/16th notes missing here. They should be F#2 and C#3, to keep within range.
– M109.4 – Pull these notes 1/8th back, and add another F#2 after these. Also rememeber to shorten these notes.
– M135-M150 – I would remove this solo marker. This part is a bit too repetitive to be considered a “solo.”
M154 – This should look a bit more like this:
Hard:
– Remember, any errors pointed out on Expert need to be addressed to all difficulties. Make sure to change the lower difficulties as you change Expert.
– As a general rule of thumb, on Hard 3-note chords may be allowed, but should be used sparringly. I personally would make all of these two-note chords, or at least those that are not 4-note chords on Expert.
– Again, range shifts belong at the start of a measure, not mid-way through it. It may also be a good idea to try to lower the amount of range shifts on Hard, since they’re also supposed to be used sparingly.
– Again with any notes that are 1/8th in length, they should be shortened to 1/16th in length.
– M8.3 – There is no reason to remove these notes here. Add them back in.
– M23.2.5 – Why is this sustain so much shorter on Hard than on any other difficulty? Lengthen it.
– M32.1 – Broken chords such as this are not allowed on any difficulty other than Expert. Make it so that they do not extend past the next note. Make sure there is a 1/16th space between these notes, and shorten the C#3 note to 1/16th in length.
– M87.4 – Shorten the current sustain, and add the Bb notes that are here on Expert, though leave the C# notes out of this chart.
At midway through the hard part I realized that I didn’t have the time to playtest the song at this time. I am sure that with practice things will get better. Some practice in the WiP and Other Customs forums should do a lot of good. Good luck, and maybe in a few months if you submit this song again with fixes I may be all over it ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
June 21, 2014 at 5:27 pm #423156That is extremely thorough. I figured that Pro keys would be the biggest issue of them all.
I was concerned about the amount of shifting in the earlier version, hence the removal of the higher notes to allow for less over the course of the song. I think the main issue I will have with it is that I have no music theory under my belt so shifting of chords is confusing to me. Presently I think I am much better suited to 5 lanes and I think that is what I will work on with a couple of others.
I have a few sings in my head to practice with various elements (harmonies, more difficult drums, rhythm on bass songs, etc.) so will mess around with them over the next few days and throw some things up.
