I get that you’re not allowed to make a custom of a song that is already DLC or an official song / release RBN content. How far can you go with alternate versions of these songs?
E.G a live version of through the fire and flames (just an example, not working on it)
August 27, 2019 at 6:54 pm #506823As long as it’s not the same version as the DLC, nor like, a demo that sounds exactly the same. Live versions are cool, as are studio versions of live DLC (Like I did with Pour Some Sugar On Me)
August 28, 2019 at 1:01 am #506832Expanding on what Sheep said. From past experiences and just watching what is and isn’t allowed, here’s what I’ve gathered
Studio version is official song -> Live version is OK to chart (Example: Cirice by Ghost is RB4 DLC, but Cirice (Live) by Ghost is on the database)
Live version is official song -> Studio version is OK to chart (Example: School’s Out and I’m Eighteen by Alice Cooper are live version in their official song versions, but the original recordings have also been charted and on the database)
Cover version is official song -> Original version is OK to chart (Example: Brass in Pocket by The Pretenders is official DLC, but it’s a cover. I was able to chart and release Brass in Pocket (Original Version) no problem)
A rerecording is official song -> Original version is OK to chart (Although going the other way is not the best to do) (Example: Love Hurts by Nazareth is a later rerecording of the same song, it’s not the original studio version. Love Hurts (Original Version) on the database IS the original recording)

what about improvements on song like a piano chart on a Rock Band 2 song

Posting a custom of an official song but with alternate charts is currently not allowed. However, if you’re interested in adding harmonies, keys and certain chart fixes to legacy songs, check out the Rock Band Harmonies Project. I’m currently maintaining the most active fork of the project, and submissions are welcome!

Something you missed. Cover version of official DLC. No bueno.
I tried to see if I can release GHII version of Woman, because I prefer the guitar solo in the middle, but there was no waaaayy.

So for example if I were to find a different cover to the Wavegroup stuff used for Rock Band 1 and tried to upload ‘Run To The Hills (cover) – As Made Famous By Iron Maiden’ then that wouldn’t be allowed?
January 5, 2020 at 3:24 pm #509003So just some random group doing a cover of a song? That’s probably allowed.

January 6, 2020 at 5:32 am #509031Oh, the database is full of songs like that. I’m always like, where’s the GOOD version? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Also,
Live version is official song -> Different live version is not OK to chart (Example: The live version of I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick from the Cheap Trick at Budokan album is official DLC, so the alternate live recording that was included in Band Hero cannot be released.)

That sucks. On a similar note, since the original studio versions of I Wanna Rock and Were Not Gonna Take It are DLC for Rock Band 4, what would that mean for the re-recordings from the Guitar Hero games? (obviously the far superior mixes for both songs dont @ me)
I like pop, I like soul, I like rock, but I never liked disco.
