We should start a Death Metal band called Rachel & The Manhunters

June 8, 2014 at 1:38 pm #422023Hey, I’m about to play install this game right now. My mother gave it to me because she was stuck on this one stealth mission.
June 8, 2014 at 1:49 pm #422024I was able to buy either this or Mario Kart 8, and I went with Mario Kart. But I still really want this game because it looks great.
June 8, 2014 at 4:47 pm #422029I’ve really enjoyed Watch_Dogs so far. I can’t stand the people complaining how it isn’t as good as GTAV. No shit. This is their first attempt, using newer tech on newer consoles. Rockstar’s been making open-world 3D games for more than 10 years. I hope this ends up like how Assassin’s Creed was. The first was pretty good, but the next one took everything and made it a lot better.
June 8, 2014 at 4:51 pm #422031Rock on.For a brief moment, I thought it said “Gay Bar Attendant”. Viva Electric Six!

This is their first attempt, using newer tech on newer consoles.Unfortunately for them things don’t happen in a vacuum. This has HAS to compete with GTA V’s open world and feature set, it HAS to compete with AC IV’s graphics (which looked amazing maxed out at 1080P), and it HAS to compete with everything else out there NOW. If they didn’t want to be compared to today’s heavy hitters, then they should have released it quietly. Then with the second or third installment, bam, wow everyone. Instead, they spent several months hyping the shit out of this game, making it out to be more than what it frankly is.
It’s not a horrible game, granted, but it’s definitely not up to the hype that THEY put out for their game. So any negativity towards the game I think is as a response to the failure of their product to live up to what they made it out to be.
I certainly feel disappointed with it and am barely playing it as a result. To me I’m having the same reaction to this game as I did to Batman: Arkham Origins (boring and unimpressive after the prior two Arkham games) and Duke Nukem Forever, which I so anticipated and it just sucked so hard I stopped playing it maybe 1/3 of the way through.
June 8, 2014 at 6:00 pm #422038Clearly, the game needed more dildo bats and superpowers

June 8, 2014 at 6:03 pm #422042I actually thoroughly enjoyed that game, even if the story and dialog was cheesy as hell.
“Hey Kinsey, wanna fuck?”
“Let’s go!”
June 8, 2014 at 7:16 pm #422048I actually thoroughly enjoyed that game, even if the story and dialog was cheesy as hell.Considering the game starts with climbing a rocket midair to the tune of I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing, I think that was very much intentional for comedic effect yes

And yeah SR4 was in my top 3 of Game of The Year considerations last year along with The Stanley Parable and Bioshock Infinite
June 8, 2014 at 8:11 pm #422051I’ve really enjoyed Watch_Dogs so far. I can’t stand the people complaining how it isn’t as good as GTAV.Ubisoft hyped it, they delivered a reveal build that ended up being nowhere near the final product, their claims regarding the feature set differ grossly from the final build, the final build is a
, they talked trash about GTA V, they delayed the game to give it more time in the oven, and they used an engine (or at least an engine derived from one) that they have been using since 2007 (and many of those assets, e.g. animations).
How it could be such a clusterf**** is amazing.
Oh, and be sure to watch that video I linked because the trains are fantastic.
June 8, 2014 at 11:02 pm #422069The game is far from perfect, but it’s still very fun. The nitpicking done in that video can be done for every game. I’ve put at least a dozen hours into it so far and haven’t encountered most of the glitches and bugs shown in that video. If you really look for problems, you’ll find them, but they don’t detract from the game if you play it normally.
My experience has reminded me a lot of the first Saint’s Row. It was the first big open world game for the last generation, and it lacked a lot of stuff the GTA games had the generation before. It wasn’t great, but it was very fun and looked great. Then they built upon the first one and released a sequel that is still one of the best open world experiences today.
I know Ubisoft fucked up by delivering a game far short of what they were leading us to believe, but it’s still a very enjoyable game. It looks like that hype worked and 4 million in sales so far should be more than enough to see a sequel.
June 9, 2014 at 11:55 pm #422154The nitpicking done in that video can be done for every game. This isn’t nitpicking in the video. This is some brutal stuff, especially for a game with the dev type, budget, and hype machine they built into it.
We’re not talking funny physics glitches — we’re talking shoddy level/area design, immersion breaking glitches (again, the TRAIN!), missing basic polish ‘features’ that have been present in games for a decade or more (shooting the water and having no reaction is great, legacy ragdoll models are great especially when they aren’t used in places where they should be, garbage collision detection, absolutely bizarre environment destruction, and the core mechanic of the game (hacking) being inferior to mindless stupid gunplay in a game with pretty pedestrian gunplay.
This is a 2014 cross-gen + PC release from the world’s largest video game studio that was intentionally positioned marketing-wise against GTA5 that was delayed for polish.
Note: At no point did I say it was impossible for the game to be fun.
June 10, 2014 at 5:13 pm #422192Good points. A large part of me just wants to justify my spending sixty dollars on it.
Thankfully it looks like Watch_Dogs’ claim to fame as the only next-gen GTA-style game will be short lived as my favorite GTA-style game, GTA V will be out for
!

I will most likely play GTA V all over again on the current gen consoles but I was hoping for some added new single player story content announced at E3. I wasnt a huge fan of GTA IV but “The Lost and the Damned” and “Ballad of Gay Tony” were excellent expansions.
