One of my favorite things that C3 does is when you all released themed weeks of customs. Even when I’m not a big fan of the selections, there is definitely something cool about songs that get packed together. And the Scottish-themed week? Probably in my top 5 or so weeks of all time.
I’ve got a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I thought it’d be fun to take a few minutes to post a few themed weeks that I think it’d be nice to see show up:
Original Version Week
I’ve suggested this before, but darned if it wouldn’t be great to be able to upgrade the handful of remaining As Made Famous By songs. Most wanted for me:
Buzzcocks – Ever Fallen in Love
Blur – Beetlebum
T Rex – Bang a Gong (Get it On)
the Pretenders – Brass in Pocket
the Monkees – Last Train to Clarksville
David Bowie – Queen Bitch, Heroes
TV Themes on the Radio Week
Now there are lots of themes that would be awesome, campy fun, but I’m thinking of show themes that doubled as “legitimate” rock songs/got some radio airplay and would work especially well in Rock Band. Songs like:
the Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You (Friends Theme)
Alabama 3 – Woke Up This Morning (Sopranos Theme)
John Sebastian – Welcome Back (Welcome Back Kotter Theme)
They Might Be Giants – Boss of Me (Malcolm in the Middle Theme)
Gary Portnoy – Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Cheers Theme)
The Almost Released by Harmonix Week
It’d be pretty great to have a week (or 3) devoted to some of the cool projects/DLC Harmonix was rumored/announced to have in the works. Like a nice selection of Pearl Jam to make up for the Pearl Jam Rock Band:
Pearl Jam – Betterman
Pearl Jam – Corduroy
Pearl Jam – Daughter
Pearl Jam – Do the Evolution
Pearl Jam – Elderly Woman Standing Behind the Counter in a Small Town
Pearl Jam – Faithless
Pearl Jam – Given to Fly
Pearl Jam – Glorified G
Pearl Jam – Not for You
Or a nice J-Rock week to make up for the cancelled Rock Band-Japan:
L’Arc-en-Ciel – Stay Away
the Pillows – Juliet
X-Japan, Asian Kung Fu Generation, etc.
Personally, I would go nuts for a…
Rock en Español Week
Aterciopelados – Bolero Falaz
Bebe – Malo
Cafe Tacuba – las Flores
los Fabulosos Cadillacs – Matador
Heroes del Silencio – Entre Dos Tierras
Mana – Vivir Sin Aire
Manu Chao – Me Gustas Tu
Ritchie Valens – La Bamba
Shakira – Ciega Sordomuda
Shakira featuring Alejandro Sanz – la Tortura
And finally (for now), how about a…
Classic Instrumentals Week
Booker T & the MGs – Green Onions
the Champs – Tequila
Dick Dale – Miserlou
Fleetwood Mac – Albatross
Mason Williams – Classical Gas
Santo & Johnny – Sleepwalk
Surfaris – Wipeout
the Ventures – Walk, Don’t Run
Regardless of whether any of these weeks ever happen, thanks to all the authors for keeping awesome content coming out.
June 1, 2014 at 10:09 pm #421604+1 for Original Version Week, but only if we can add War Pigs by Black Sabbath to the list ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
June 1, 2014 at 10:33 pm #421606I can tell you at least one of the songs mentioned here was already released and at least one is in playtesting.
#spoilers

One released? What did I space on? I’m usually pretty obsessed with knowing what’s been out.

“Sleepwalk” by Santo & Johnny has been available from near the very beginning of C3.
June 1, 2014 at 10:44 pm #421611The one i know for sure is Sleep Walk. There may be others as they sound familiar but i have customs from before c3, released by c3, and things not yet or never to be released so it’s hard to keep track.
June 1, 2014 at 11:07 pm #421612I spy with my little eye plenty of themed weeks ahead. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
June 1, 2014 at 11:30 pm #421615I suggest adding I Don’t Want to Wait by Paula Cole to the TV Themes week.
June 2, 2014 at 10:05 pm #421638+1 for the Monkees, Me gustas tu, Green Onions and the Bowie Songs. I could stand some lovin’ for the Hunky Dory album.
On the subject of the Rembrandts’ song: I would be genuinely surprised if it isn’t out in the wild this time next year.
That said, with so many people somehow liking the show Friends it’s somewhat of an enigma it hasn’t been done already. Instant party hit right there.

Im a HUGE friends fan but if I asked my wife to play Rock Band and I select this song, im going to get a guitar in my face or a mic shoved in my………… eye!
June 3, 2014 at 5:24 am #421662Wow, If you think it would elicit a reaction like that maybe I’m way off and talking from my fortunately ever micless… eye.
On the plus side maybe afterwards you could select a Tina Turner song from to be released Domestic Violence week-pack ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />.
