I’m not very talented at directing or editing videos, but for some reason I find myself time and again making and sharing videos, both in my personal life and in my involvement with C3. In preparation for our last release this Friday, I’ve put together a video that more or less retraces our steps through 30 months of releases, from when C3 was just an idea in an e-mail chain, to last week’s amazing release.
There’s just so much content that it was very challenging choosing what to highlight, but I tried my best to cover the important milestones. My goal was to show how through its releases, C3 integrated the many cultures of its members, celebrated several holidays with what we consider the C3 family, and shared songs from some of the most highly requested artists in Rock Band history.
The ending highlights not only why we are stopping our weekly releases, but also how the community will live on through the legacy left by C3. We have established an amazing community, we have released an amazing body of work comprised of nearly 1,700 songs, and we have provided you with the tools and tutorials to ensure the creation of custom content for this great game never ends.
I know not all of you have 20 minutes of your life to dedicate to a sappy video, so there’s a also a condensed version with just the beginning and the end of our journey. If all you have is 5 minutes, watch that version. But if you can, it would really mean a lot to me and to us if you checked out the full version.
And if the video makes you half emotional as it made us, you might want to prepare yourself with some excuses for why your eyes are so, well, watery…

Short version:
September 30, 2015 at 6:02 pm #456313Incredible. Thank you all so much for C3.
I was crushed when regular DLC releases ended and then I saw some random post on NeoGAF about customs for Rock Band. I thought to myself, well Im sure I need a modded Xbox or something to use them and I almost never checked this place out. I am sooooo happy I did. This place is incredible and full of (IMO) the most friendly people on the internet. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Once again, thanks to all who have ever been apart of C3!
September 30, 2015 at 6:13 pm #456315Thanks for these awesome years with the best content forever!
September 30, 2015 at 6:33 pm #456317Watched the 5 minute version.
Did not like the final slide.
I only found out about this place in late May, and only this week have I been able to do some customs-related stuff myself. Day late, dollar short.
September 30, 2015 at 6:47 pm #456319Damn, man… it’s like… almost getting dusty in here.
I only wish I had been here at the beginning. But any which way, it’s been an awesome ride. And some of us aren’t done yet.
Thanks, Trojan, and everyone. And I absolutely loved the segue from “American Pie” into “Do Ya”.
September 30, 2015 at 7:08 pm #456322Phenomenal video. It really shows how massive this project really got, especially considering how spur of the moment it seemed to start. It’s also convinced me of something: I’m downloading everything. No exceptions, I can thin out once I’ve played everything. Thank you for all of this.
September 30, 2015 at 7:08 pm #456323This is amazing. The quality, quantity, and consistency of releases, in addition to the tools and tutorials you have all put out is unlike any other community I’ve seen, Rock Band-related or not. I’m sad it’s ending, but I’m also looking forward to seeing how it evolves in conjunction with RB4.

I also got a little pumped up by that transition. “Do Ya” is such an uplifting song…that makes me glad to be alive.

Hard drive space is cheap. The quality put into these customs by these guys is not.
Download everything; you can always delete what you don’t want later ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Lots of great things develop from spur of the moment decisions.
September 30, 2015 at 7:21 pm #456327All – the least we can do is bake the C3 guys a cake or something.
Unless they prefer the Carvel ice cream cake option.

I don’t remember who did that video for the Rapture, if it was Nemo or not, but at the time I remember I was so happy with how it came out, it was just perfect, it transitioned so well and it gave a sense of new beginnings. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
September 30, 2015 at 7:50 pm #456329I did all the videos until lowlander2 took over. The only exception was PikminGuts92 would sometimes record the gameplay footage for me, specially at the beginning. In this case he recorded the gameplay footage too I think, and I did the rest with that dinky video editor.

I still get hyped for it watching the original release vid. I really don’t think there was a better choice for that video, and it’s such a great transition.
It’s fun reading the original e-mail thread. Also, the other authors can blame/hate me for this thought (not that I was the only one to have the thought – far from it) – I’m still kind of stunned with how far this project went considering the rather modest goals, and the folks involved (yes, even the people I ‘fought’ with) will always have my respect.
I almost think it’d be nice to try and do weekly releases (at least 3 songs/week, like official DLC, across the community), either doing the Friday/Tuesday thing Harmonix does now, or a Friday/Friday or Tuesday/Tuesday thing. If people have other things in the pipeline they really want to push out, that’s cool, but it’d be kind of nice to pick up the torch and keep “weekly” DLC available as a thing. It’s been a blast.

Do ya, do ya, want my (power g)love?
