Ultimate_MANG0, Nunchuck, Chainsaw Octopus, Gigakoops, ws54: these are people who you can disagree with on authoring choices as with anyone else, but surely don’t put out 1-star quality songs.
Not getting up at you Farottone, but I thought I would at least say my part. I use Midis, yes. BUT I use them as a base start. Very rarely are midis 100% correct. So I put in the midi, then go over and fixing mistakes. I have NEVER just put in the midi and send it out. Vocals and keys are by far the parts I struggle with the most, as it does with alot of people. Midis help me get thos base pitches and I touch up slides and chords etc. after that. You say to use your ears well guess what? Your ears can’t always pick up everything. Now Rock Band King or what ever you want to be called now. I don’t like stems. I try and avoid them as much as I can. Why? Because as weird as it sounds I have two reasons.
1. While playing Rockband, I hate it when the sound cuts out when I miss a note. I know customs have started that, and missing those notes have trained me to play better, but now I hate jamming out to my favourite song and missing 50% of the solo. In Dragonforce, that’s the best part. I have had friends come over who have barely played rockband before and always hate that they cant hit the notes, therefore not hearing the song. They enjoy the customs more than the DLC.
2. I prefer using the compiled audio than stems. I have bought stems and they haven’t been good quality or doesn’t even sound right. I have the song Rain, by Dragon, a song I have loved and wanted in rockband for so long. There are no MIDIs for it so after some hard digging I came across some stems for it. Finally! I can I a good chance at doing vocals and keys for it. Guess what? It sounded horrible compared to the original, pieces were missing and extra stuff was added in. I hated it. When you say there are errors in my song, there most likely is. When you say I’m missing an entire part, that’s where I don’t understand. Now I don’t know if you are listening to a different version than mine (mine’s off itunes, which I bought), like you’re listening to the stems you have or something, but you are the only one that has said I missed an entire chart.
Also I would like to point something out. I pay for my midis. I believe they are much better quality than finding those free ones that are half done, or even just a jumbled mess. And because Australias currency conversion is horrible compared to other countires, Im paying between $10 – $15, depending on the song (A more popular the song is the more it costs) Now, take that into account when I say I have made over 50 songs so far. That’s at least $500 I have spent JUST to at least get vocals and keys into my songs. Money that I never had to spend, money that could have gone to many other things, but I I chose this just so everyone can enjoy the hard work I put and enjoy a full band custom.
There another rant. I’m not one to get upset but my god that just pissed me off. Ihope at least now people see my point of view for my content.
January 3, 2017 at 12:57 pm #479780I’m just gonna reiterate though: this is NOT about authoring quality. Any 1 or 2 star vote based on a legitimate judgment call is perfectly fine, even if that judgment call is way off. We want to stop people from hurting those who spend countless hours on content that’s enjoyed by thousands of users just because of their own agenda, that’s it. And they know who they are, and taking a look at the list everyone can pretty much make up their own mind.

You really don’t have to defend your point of view, even if it is nice to have a bit more information on how you go about creating.
Your customs more than speak for themselves as do your actions. Trust me, they make a stronger argument than any lonely_hate-filled_1-star_rating could ever hope to do.
Now I am personally biased as we’ve collaborated on occasion, so people can take this for what it is: my extra biased opinion.
But it extends to every author and contributor who does his or her best to have a positive impact on the people of this place.
January 4, 2017 at 7:32 pm #479822Now that the rating system has changed to just “like the custom”. You could maybe have the rating in the DB be an aggregate score? Like the way Rotten Tomatoes aggregates movie reviews.
Just a thought, most of what i wanted to say has already been said.
January 4, 2017 at 7:44 pm #479823We are still deciding on what to do, they’re all tests for now.
January 8, 2017 at 2:49 am #479945I didn’t see this thread previously, and was somewhat surprised to see that I am NOT on the list, but here are my thoughts…
I did give a 1 or 2 star to multiple songs by the same charter, because I found them to have multiple of the following…
1. Some bad audio/visual syncing. This is the primary reason I bother to rate things because if something is synced badly it’s unplayable.
2. A lot of sustains that go RIGHT up to the beginning of the next note, which is against standard charting practices and is quite awkward to play, along with some other non-standard things
3. A lot of notes that just don’t sound accurate, both in pitch, and a things being 3 note chords when they sound like they should be 2 note chords or single notes. In the case of pitch, this is especially on vocals
Since I wasn’t on the list I don’t see a reason to name names, but if this sounds like you, please know that I mean these things constructively and would love to see improved versions since it’s not like a couple of flaws make something worthless.
Also, if something doesn’t have overdrive, I am liable to give it 1 star. No overdrive is a deal-breaker for me. A lot of charters release things without overdrive and I delete the charts, which can sometimes make me sad because they are occaisonally otherwise flawless charts, for example this one:
Edit: I do want to say that I at least played everything I gave 1 star to. After a while I just stopped getting songs from the person I was referring to, but I didn’t keep giving 1 stars.
January 8, 2017 at 2:07 pm #479957Also, if something doesn’t have overdrive, I am liable to give it 1 star.
If you give 1 star to a perfectly fine song because it does not have overdrive, you are doing a disservice to the community and the authors, there is no way around that. And no matter which system we choose, if that is the criteria you apply, the system will still punish authors unfairly and drive them away.

I agree with this. It’s not really fair to give it an auto one-star. I don’t like lack of overdrive either but it’s not really fair to one-star for it especially if the rest of the chart is good. I’d think three or four starts would be more appropriate.
That being said I do appreciate that you judge based on the chart not the artist/song/charter.
January 12, 2017 at 10:47 pm #480124I wouldn’t give it a 1 if it was something otherwise perfect like the one I linked (although I will definitely delete it from my xbox) but if it’s something that is flawed enough to be maybe a 3 star, but also has no overdrive, I’d probably give it a 1.
January 13, 2017 at 12:19 am #480132so your telling me…. not one of my songs got 1 starred? or is that a polite way of saying that my songs suck and that they deserve a 1-2 star rating?
January 13, 2017 at 12:23 am #480133I’ve had many people critiquing my work and most of them were right. That”s how I tried to improve. But this thread not only is not about me, but it’s also not about charts quality, it’s about vindictive and dishonest people. Ultimate_MANG0, Nunchuck, Chainsaw Octopus, Gigakoops, ws54: these are people who you can disagree with on authoring choices as with anyone else, but surely don’t put out 1-star quality songs.
all these authors have made songs i play more than any other author here, i love everything you guys do, keep positive !

We have listed the most recent plus the most egregious offenders, simply.
January 14, 2017 at 10:37 pm #480199I protested the songs by the pedophile with a 1 star. I did not play them. I agreed with the others that had also chosen 1 star.
I do not mind having people know this, but I thought the ratings were supposed to be anonymous.
I think earlier on when rating songs I may have given more 1 stars. It was more on the basis on likeability of the song maybe moreso than play-ability or quality. However, 1 stars also that did not happen very often. Are there any official rules or expectations for the ratings?
January 14, 2017 at 11:31 pm #480200Doesn’t really matter now since the rating system has been removed.
January 14, 2017 at 11:59 pm #480204True, but if there is a dialog to explain maybe the rating option can be brought back with an improvement. It would be nice to have it back, because it was at least some way of seeing other user opinions and a different way to sort the database.
I look at similar to people that have un-pitched vocals in their songs and they choose not to post it. Personally, I would rather see un-pitched vocals rather than none at all.
