One of the greatest selling singles of all time (it sold a million more copies than I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles), and one of the only Japanese songs to top the US Charts. The lyrics are quite profound, and this would be a lot of fun on vocals.
Sukiyaki was named after a Japanese beef dish. The song has nothing to do with said beef dish, it was simply named that so English-speakers would recognize it. The song is about a man who walks while looking upwards so his tears don’t roll down his face. Lyrics below.

Ha! Didn’t know Kyu Sakamoto’s version sold as much as it did! I grew up as a little boy listening to my mom playing that version on her old 45.
In my 20’s, I thoroughly enjoyed A Taste of Honey’s cover of this song sometime in the1980’s. +1 for either version! It’s a hauntingly beautiful tune!
