I was done charting. Vocals is always what I do last because it takes the most time so I’m on doing the harmonies. I go to export it after checking through and throw my MIDI into Magma. It starts giving me LOADS of missing lyric errors. This obviously intrigued me so I went back into Reaper to find that every single vocal slide (lyric event labelled ‘+’) had been deleted from all harmony tracks and PART VOCALS.
Is there any reason why this would happen?
It’s not a major issue as I can just go back and add them in again. Just thought it was strange.
UPDATE: also discovered it wasn’t just ‘+’ and wasn’t all the way through.
Every single character lyric event (in my case just ‘+’ and ‘a’) was deleted up to half way into the song. After that all my single character lyric events were there.
Strange.
My guess is that they were not lyric text events but some other kind of text event.
Did you glue two or more MIDI “items” into a single MIDI track at some point? There is a known bug in REAPER 4.22 where gluing MIDI items together munges all single-character lyric events. The good-ish news is the events actually aren’t deleted, but are turned into “meta” events that do not show up when the chart is displayed as a piano roll or named notes. If you instead display the chart as an event list, you can see all the “missing” events and turn them back into lyric events. It’s annoying, but at least it’s possible to undo the damage.
For future reference, if you think you will have to glue MIDI items together, save the lyric importing until the track is otherwise ready to go. Newer versions of REAPER may also have this bug fixed. I have no expertise there, so maybe someone else can chime in.
1) It must have been that cause I remember finding the glue tool recently
2) I don’t import lyrics, I add the events directly into REAPER. I find it easier.
