I came across a heart-wrenching scene last week that nearly made me sick. Mold.. thick, icky, vinyl album ruining mold.. concentrated on a group of LPs that had been left in the old man’s flooded basement years ago, tucked away in a garbage bag. :what:

I assume he thought the covers and sleeves would dry out. Instead they grew all over Blizzard of Oz, Pat Travers Band, Blue Oyster Cult, a ton of Skynyrd albums, etc. So I’ve been trying hard to salvage what I can, and trashing the irreplaceable covers and sleeves. :crying: I’m nicknaming this batch of releases, The Moldy Oldies Part 1. :sigh:

Deep Purple – Made in Japan (Live) LP

Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms LP

Lynyrd Skynyrd – Gold & Platinum LP + CD (Using cd to repair what I can)

Molly Hatchet – Flirtin’ With Disaster LP

Molly Hatchet – Molly Hatchet LP

Pat Travers Band – Crash and Burn LP (The first 4 tracks so far, quite rough)

Ratt – Out of the Cellar LP

41 Original Hits from the Soundtrack of American Graffiti LP

Fame: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP

It sure is slow going trying to dump wood glue over each album, trying to get the mold out of the grooves. Dat static it produces.. Oi! Then a nice distilled water bath, some baking between glass plates (for the warped albums), some light chemicals. More static. Some of that hard work is starting to produce results though.

Anyways, a small update. The original Blizzard of Ozz LP is ripped. That means Osbourne, Rhodes, Daisley, Kerslake and Airey playing. Not that 2002 re-record nonsense. Alongside all three of the first Led Zeppelin 2014 remastered CDs. I heard a few minor cons about the first being channel swapped a bit, but II and III sound quite nice. Don’t worry though, I’m still going to rip the original LPs for those that prefer those. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

The moldy LPs are starting to slowly give me some results, although not great. After my little find in the shed, I went hunting around for my old cassette collection to see if there was anything worth adding. So far, I haven’t added much, but I did find some decent, great, and downright silly stuff. The rips are turning out surprisingly great for the format limitations.

Here’s what I have done so far:

A pair of Richard Marx and Roxette Singles

Bryan Adams – Waking Up the Neighbours album (Notoriously Canadian Non-Canadian Content) :haw:

King Kobra’s – Thrill of a Lifetime album (Which really isn’t as bad as some say it is)

Cher’s – Heart of Stone album

      Alice Cooper – Poison/Trash Single

      Upcoming stuff:

Piledriver – The Wrestling Album II (Why do I own this?)

Technotronic – Pump Up the Jam The Album

      Roxette – Look SHarp

      Richard Marx – Repeat Offender

      Wilson Phillips – Hold On

      Genesis – We Can’t Dance

Slade – Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply

Ratt – Invasion of Your Privacy

      Suvivor – Vital Signs

      Kick Axe – Vices

Weird Al Yankovic – The Album

      Weird Al Yankovic – Alapalooza

Weird Al Yankovic – Bad Hair Day
