Song Cache Location?

Long story short I’m trying to edit the metadata of some customs so that they have ratings (FF, SR, etc.) because a lot of customs I’ve downloaded are listed as unrated (rating “4” in the DTA) and the parental filter on my 360 won’t let me play them. Went and isolated the problem songs, deleted them off my flash drive, edited the rating to FF (1) using the DTA editor on C3CONTools, and then put it back on my flash drive and into my 360. When I opened back up the song library, though, they were all still listed as unrated. Took the flash drive back to my computer and verified with both C3CONTools and Magma that it does have the right rating listed in the song’s data.
Did a little bit of searching through the forums and found that this is probably because of the song cache and that I need to “reset/rebuild” the cache, but I couldn’t find any information on where the cache is or what I need to do to rebuild it. Is it on my 360’s hard drive or my flash drive? Also I read that clearing the cache will make me lose all the song scores, is there any way to just remove the songs that I need to replace instead of wiping the data on all the songs? I’m fine with losing the data on the custom songs, but I have a lot of DLC songs, some of which aren’t available on the store anymore due to licensing issues, so would I lose those too? Also, refreshing the cache will only “delete” scores from songs that don’t have a proper numerical ID, so that only some custom songs. Official songs has a proper ID so these scores are saved in your savegame, not in the cache.
October 15, 2019 at 2:30 pm #507492To build on what Alternity said, deleting the cache will lose your scores on no official content and only some customs. Customs had been around for a while already when the secret to cache-proof scores was discovered (numbers-only ID’s in the DTA, rather than alphanumeric ID’s), so some customs are cache-proof and some aren’t.
If you’re not sure where your RB cache is, odds are it’s on your hard drive. Fortunately it’s easy to find in either case. Just browse your storage using the XBox 360 dash board’s storage explorer. The cache will appear in RB3’s file list as “Rock Band 3 Song Cache” or something similar. Delete that and you’re good to go. The next time you start the game, it will ask for a storage device. That will control where the new cache file is created. Then the game will spend some time going over your song list and rebuilding the cache. After that, any DTA or other metadata updates you’ve done will show up in-game.

October 19, 2019 at 6:28 pm #507535i did not know we could do this, ive got a nagging EDIT: 330 or so of my 1900 total songs that are unrated, i guess i’ll go oh ahead and fix that. Are customs that make it to the database forced to have a rating so we dont have to fix this ourselves? thanks for posting about this though
EDIT 2: Is there any way to add a batch rating change feature, kinda like the batch CON renamer?

To my knowledge, ratings were never required. Some authors used them, some didn’t. Same with vocal tonic, which is something I’ve been adding to all my game songs.

October 30, 2019 at 11:04 am #507661Another way of sorting the song cache out I have found when you have a problem song is to delete the song within Rock Band itself. This will then re-do the cache to get rid of that song. When you re-add next time it will add it as new.
January 25, 2020 at 1:28 am #509367hey do songs that are packed keep their scores if they have a number id and you wipe the cache? i think the pack itself says 0 but the individual songs are numbered

It is relatively easy to add by someone working on the existing source code, yes. You just have to convince the current person to do it… and that’s not me!
