Is it possibly just the video itself? Sideshow posted a video of my guitar chart for “1985” and it’s off a bit when I watch it, but I know that song is pretty dead-nuts on the money TM-wise. It’s certainly not off like it appears in the video. Maybe something gets “lost in the translation” sometimes?
If you look at the beat lines on the chart you see that it often doesn’t align to the beat properly and I can see the rhythm isn’t completely accurate in relation to the notes around it at all times, so yeah I am pretty sure

Same could be said about the “1985” video’s audio sync. It looks way off, very noticibly off, but when I play it, it’s right on the money.
(Conan) Seems like a pretty fun song, but I noticed in the video that a lot of it seems off-sync…Did you actually play “Conan” or were you judging by the video alone? This bothers me because if it’s not off but only appears to be in the video, people might believe the author can’t tempo-map worth a damn when he/she actually can – especially if someone starts to talk about fixing something that might not truly be broken. I appreciate that you know your sh*t, but after watching “1985” and seeing the nearly .25 second “early audio”, then reading your observations about “Conan” being off, I don’t doubt you would believe that the “1985” TM is off as well. I might suggest that videos of customs might not be the best medium for critquing timing issues.

Nonono, 1985 seems fine, this is a completely gameplay/visual thing and have nothing to do with YouTube’s poor audio syncing. Look at the fretboard when playing the Conan song on Drums, a lot of those notes do not line up properly to the white lines in the background, which is a error (the white lines represent the beat of the song) as in 99% of cases all songs should follow those white lines in their note placement. There is also some rhythm errors, and as I mentioned to Sideshow it’s fixable with the help of the ReaSynth plugin to get a better understanding of the rhythm during charting and it’s not related to the tempo map at all.
March 25, 2014 at 9:28 pm #416286Colonol 32dll, what I think Nightmare is referring to is the beat lines (those white lines on the instrument grid), which has nothing to do with the video sync. If you look at the Conan chart, you can see the notes do not quite line up on those lines. Take a look at the drums here
As you can see, guitar and bass are fine, but the drums are off-grid here.

Ah. Ok, I get what you’re saying about the white line. It looks to me like the D gems are at half-beat points on the chart, but the strings are on the beat markers. I get what you’re referring to now. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
He mentioned he had TM troubles with this one – there’s nothing more frustrating than charting through a bad TM. I recently threw in the towel while tempo-mapping “Only the Young” because the waveform was pure mud and after two hours of struggling, my PC crashed and I lost it all because I forgot to save.
Thanks to you both for taking the time to explain.
March 25, 2014 at 9:59 pm #416288Dont worry about it. I’m half way fixing it right now. Because this is a classical piece and it doesnt have real prominent kick pedal notes like in most rock songs I was off. I never used ReaSynth before and it does help tremendously for this song. A new revised version will be up soon. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
UPDATE: All of you that downloaded “Anvil of Crom” pour acid on it, burn it will fire, delete it. I put up a new version that fixed mainly the drums being out of sync. I mostly had to move the drum chart 1/16 all to the left plus tons of toms were offbeat. I also went through bass, guitar, and keys and made sure it was sync with the drum chart. I redid a section on keys towards the end that is not reflected in the preview video but everything else should be the same.
I’m also making good progress on “Holiday Road” where the drums, guitar, and bass are finished. Just need to work on the vocals and should have it up by the weekend.

March 28, 2014 at 12:23 am #416437Say, did you use the triplet grid rather than the straight grid when charting Holiday Road? Some parts seems a bit off and it looks like it’s due to the notes being on the wrong grid, particularly with the undercharted snare rolls

Some parts seems a bit off and it looks like it’s due to the notes being on the wrong grid, particularly with the undercharted snare rollsAfter I tempo mapped the song I realized that the song audio file was not positioned correctly to start at 3.1. I had to move the song audio file a little bit in order for the song to start at 3.1 correctly. Yes the grid looks messed up because of it. I didnt want to re tempo map the whole song.
April 2, 2014 at 10:06 pm #416834For my next custom I’m finally doing a song from my favorite band of all time. There are so many great songs to choose from but I decided to do one of their more popular hits.

You don’t have to. You cut-paste the points to the new start. I had to do that for my latest custom because it started too quick despite being on 3.1
