Should strings be authored as keys?

    Hello, everyone!

I’ve been working on authoring an original song for one of my bands, because why not, and I’ve been struggling with what to do with the strings. I’ve seen that people tend to author strings in the keys section. However, they aren’t really set up like a piano composition; it’s an entire ensemble. There’s even a part where some of the strings are sustaining, and some are doing staccato notes. So, my question here is: would it make more sense to author them in the keys, so there would be something there, or put them in the TRKS file where they can just hang out and…be strings? As always, any help on the matter is greatly appreciated.

Strings are authored to keys on a regular basis. Of course it depends on how well they translate in the game for the specific song you’re working on: if they don’t work out you can keep them in the backing track.

Normally, I’d just chart the violin and viola parts as the “right hand,” and put the cello parts (if there are any) as the left hand animation. I just didn’t know how well it would translate if the viola and cello got split between legato and staccato. Anyway, thanks for your input.

I’m not sure how the pause between notes factor in but alright. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
