Thanks for the warm welcome. I actually tried charting drums when the RBN was first released and nearly pulled my hair out,It never happened. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” /> You ever think of doing a tutorial video on charting drums. I’ve only found 1 tutorial and the guy i think was kind of in a hurry. I think I saw a section on these forums with written tutorials but I’m more of a visual kind of guy.

There is (was?) a really good tempo mapping tutorial on twitch somewhere on these forums. As far as drums specifically, you just need an understanding of which color matches which sound, and then it’s a lot of trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

 

Tempo mapping is definitely the hardest part to learn.

 

What I did was grab customs that were missing drums, and started charting drums for them myself. That way I got some practice actually placing gems before I had to worry about anything else.

 

I might do a video tutorial at some point but right now it’s not really feasible for me, both because of good equipment and time to make it.

 

I am happy to give advice though if you ever want some help. Feel free to PM.

Just got back from our Cali trip to see Thrice back to back on their tour! Amazing as always, ESPECIALLY last night. Got some really good insight watching Riley drum, and he was super on point.

Blink-182 – Violence

Yay! I’ve been wanting to chart this song for awhile and finally found the motivation to do it. Next week is Blink week! (California is coming out!)

 

Drums were hard to chart for this song, because I didn’t want to chart the percussion but I also didn’t want drummers to be sitting there motionless and/or just hitting the bass pedal for like half the song. I decided on a happy medium where I didn’t chart the shaker but I did chart the other stuff. Feedback is welcome.

 

For the vocals, I charted everything except Mark’s background talkies during the bridge. I figured most people probably wouldn’t be interested in saying that part (and it’s hard to hear anyway), plus it would be a major pain to chart. So yeah, I didn’t bother. If enough people want it I can probably add it in at some point though.

 

Guitar and Bass are very repetitive which is normal for Blink.

I’ve been wanting to chart this song for awhile, and I’m so glad I finally did! It’s FREAKING AWESOME.

Travis is a jerk and does lots of crazy stuff. I charted the hard snares to Yellow during the last roll. Turned out pretty okay but I’m not skilled enough to keep combo there so let me know if you have any feedback.

California leaked this past weekend! There are only 1 or 2 songs on it that I feel like I might chart soon-ish but neither of them will be my next release.

-Drum Overdrive Fills were misaligned causing the activation note to be off sync with the chart. Fixed.

Originally it had 3 parts, one for “screaming” the words in the middle of the song. But in playtesting the sustains didn’t work correctly and it wasn’t registering them correctly anyway, so I dropped that part.

 

Harmony 2 is just an octave lower for the middle of the song. I tried to get it to register but it always defaulted to H1 for me. The end of the song has different notes, so watch out for that. Jesse harmonies are super hard to chart but I’m pretty sure I got them down correctly.

 

As before, I’ll update my link above to the database link if/when the author updates the database again. Updated.

Wow, this ended up being much more difficult to chart than I thought it was. Kudos to those authors out there who dedicate all their time to electronic/drum machine music. Because it’s hard to keep it accurate and still humanly playable haha.

 

I’m generally pleased with how this turned out. I’ve been working on it for most of the week and it’s to the point now where I feel comfortable releasing it. So here you go!

 

A couple notes-

 

I charted some synth on the guitar part, to keep from having big long empty spaces. If there was guitar (that I could hear) I prioritized charting that.

 

There are some issues with lyrics randomly not showing up in the vocal track. I double checked REAPER and they’re definitely there in the file, and there were no errors during the build. Not sure what’s going on with that. It didn’t really ruin the experience for me though.

 

I used CAT to reduce the 2x Bass Pedal and then I glanced over it and made small adjustments where it made OBVIOUS errors. If there are any other errors in the 1x Bass Pedal chart (on drums) please point them out so I have an opportunity to fix them. I generally don’t play the 1x versions anymore as I don’t have time.

So what does the future hold? Well I’ve released a few non-Thrice songs now, so I think I need to get back to them. Though I have a couple Brand New songs I’d like to release in the near-ish future as well, and maybe some fix-ups to some Blink tracks that are on the database. I’m really hoping the time between this release and whatever I do next will be shorter than it has been-but we’ll see what life has in store for me.
