There are varying amounts of notes to go with each song in the database, but my personal favorite from the pack is The Sky Is Falling.

 

Okay so time for some personal word vomit stuff. I started school in October and it’s been…. hellish. It’s been manageable so far but it’s also come at a time in life when there are lots of other things pulling me in all different directions. I’m not even to the difficult part yet and it’s already been rough. But that’s okay.

 

So what does this mean for customs? Nothing really… I’m gonna keep working on them at about the same pace I think. I just started my winter break (I have this week off) so I *might* get another pack out before the new year…. but don’t hold your breath. I’ve been semi-addicted to FFXV which will probably take priority of free time for the next couple of days at least.

 

What’s next for customs? Well at this point you can probably tell I’m working on Alchemy Index. I’ve got 2-3 tracks from each (planned) EP done, and for the most part the “harder to chart” songs have been charted.

 

I’m also throwing in random non-alchemy stuff as you’ve seen to: 1. Keep things fresh. 2. Keep customs as a hobby and not a job when I’m working on them (projects put me into job mentality whether I like it or not). I’ve got a lot of stuff in mind for “extra” songs. Some Thrice and some not. If you have any requests from any artists that I’ve released previously, feel free to post them here and I might throw one in as an extra. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

 

Anyway I’m really tired. I’ve been doing customs for like 12 hours at this point so I’m gonna call it a day, drink some caffeine, and play something else haha.

A few (brief) notes:

 

Burn The Fleet is rad. Play it. I especially like it on drums.

 

The Whaler was tough. The tempo map was weird and I ended up under-charting the drums. Partially because everything that was “audible” got muddled together between Riley and drum samples overlaying over eachother. There was also just some general playability concerns. I’ve scored ~95% on it at this point so I’m pretty sure it’s solid at this point. I might do some minor revisions to it later at some point.

 

As The Crow Flies is super stripped down but also very beautiful. Fun on Guitar and Vocals. Bass line is pretty repetitive but not awful.

Not a lot to say about these songs, other than that I’ve always really loved the ending of each track and how it kind of ties each EP together with it’s format and tune. Really great stuff. I was worried about Silver Wings at first but it ended up being very straight forward and still pretty fun. Kings Upon The Main was difficult to chart, but I think I did an okay job (at least). Flame Deluge hits hard (like it should.)

What, you didn’t think I wasn’t gonna make full EP tracks now did you? The only reason I didn’t release Vheissu was because of Image Of The Invisible being official DLC! GOSH. You know me! I will say as a disclaimer that I have not had the opportunity to test these “Full EP” tracks and I probably won’t for a bit…. I’m leaving in a couple hours to go camp out with my friend (who didn’t get a pre-order…) in line for a Switch, after which I’m going to my own line to pick up my pre-order…… and then Zelda. Zelda Zelda Zelda.

 

If I get a chance though, I will test the tracks and make sure everything turned out alright. In the meantime, if anybody notices anything please feel free to post the feedback here and I’ll take a look at it when I can.

 

Thanks for all the support to those of you who enjoy my stuff. I’ll say right now that my next release is probably going to be The Window, and after that I have some Brand New tracks and maybe some Pierce The Veil, or other video game related music I’ve been thinking of charting for awhile.

 

In terms of the Thrice Charting future… definitely some stuff from Beggars and Major/Minor, though I’m not sure if I’ll do “full album” stuff for either of those. TBEITBN will also have a few more tracks released eventually. Still up in the air about “full album” on that. There are a couple more songs I’d like to take a crack at from Illusion of Safety… Though I still get some PTSD when I think about charting those songs. Also a couple standouts from Identity Crisis I’d like to see (Phoenix Ignition? A Torch To End All Torches?), and probably some live tracks.

 

It’s funny, but my reaction to that above paragraph is “that’s it? Shouldn’t there be more?” but really when I step back and look at it, I’ve charted nearly half of Thrice’s studio work. That is crazy to me. OH. I do intend on cleaning up the drums on TAITA at some point as well. There are some little nuances that bug me whenever I play them (no “accent” snares, some mis-charted crashes/hi-hats in a couple songs), but whenever I think about “fixing” them it just doesn’t sound appealing at all. Definitely one of those things I have to be in the mood for.

 

Anyway enough of my rant. I hope you enjoy the tracks, and to those of you getting a Switch I hope you love it as much as I know I’m gonna love mine!

Well looks like Bored To Death (Blink-182) is on the setlist for Rock Band VR. I’m assuming this means it will no longer be allowed on the customs database, so unless a mod speaks up and says otherwise I’ll plan on taking it down sometime early next week (to give people a last chance to grab it if they so please).

 

In other news, Zelda is amazing and I haven’t touched a single other video game since the Switch released. I still haven’t even play tested the EP tracks… but I also don’t have any angry messages saying that they’re awful or don’t work so I’m hopefully everything turned out. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I convinced myself to play through Fire this morning before starting Zelda. It’s completely playable but there were a few things I noticed.

 

Animations fail to start on Firebreather

The Arsonist sounds like crap compared to the other songs (this happens a lot in my experience working with Guitar Hero converts. I’ll see what I can do about it)

Animations get broken somewhere in the middle as well, but they were definitely working on at least a couple songs.

 

I haven’t tested Water or Air, but it wouldn’t surprise me if similar animations issues occur.

 

The song loaded just fine and everything so I don’t feel the need to pull it down. I don’t know exactly when I’ll have the motivation to fix it, but I probably will do that before I release anything else. Unless I get one of those uncontrollable itches where I have to chart something NOW.

There was some discussion about RBVR and what that means for customs, both in the announcements and in the General Discussion

 

My opinion has already been stated (Guitar only is not a reason to remove, wait for it to become RB4 DLC), but the mods have still not publicly said anything about it yet.

Well I coincidentally got a copyright strike on my YouTube channel for that custom specifically, so someone is paying attention. Probably better to side with caution here.

Good idea.

 

Copyright strikes should also be verified based on when they were given and what videos are being charged. I know that strikes can be issued by specific parties, but not sure if users are mentioned specifically.

 

I believe there are also flaggers out there that have been taught to go after anything fair use regardless. Sideshow’s channel got taken down completely for his custom previews, even though there was no overlap with what HMX was doing. Lots of big-name bands though (Chicago, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater). It could be related to the music conglomerates posting automatically generated song streams on YT, but may be not.

Yeah the timing is just impeccable. None of my other customs (blink included) have been hit. It COULD just be coincidence, but like I said I’d rather be safe than sorry [emoji52].
