As some of you may know, I am working on Angels & Airwaves material. However, I thought I’d ask now about this: Someone else had charted one AvA song and released it some time ago. “Love Like Rockets”. However I played this song when I first got customs working and the drum chart has many broken aspects and the song just isn’t finished. This user has been inactive since July. What are the rules on recharting this song correctly in the future if he never comes back? I’d hate to have all AvA songs charted and this one song be left out because the author stopped coming here.
If you’ve contacted the author and they haven’t gotten back to you, I’d say it’s fair for you to release your own version.
Generally, there’s room enough in the world for different versions of the same song.
However, it gets more confusing if both authors put their customs in the C3 database! By all means, try to work it out between you two once they return and fold your fixes into the existing custom as a collaboration.
But the main thing that you need to keep in mind is that if you’re using ANY part of their charts as a starting point, you need to acknowledge their contribution. Even if you can no longer contact them, give them credit.
That’s the Law of the Land around here! (…and polite behavior, as well!)
