Im curious, is it RB2 or RB3 drums that you can attach cymbals to? Also, since the GH drums have cymbals (kind of) can you use those as pro drums?
July 16, 2014 at 6:20 pm #424760RB2 and 3 have cymbal ports. Not sure about the GH cymbals though.
July 16, 2014 at 6:55 pm #424761GH drums can’t be used for RB Pro Drums out of the box, though with some additional pads and some knowledge of MIDI adapters it might be possible to program it to work with it, but I have no idea.
EDIT: Completely missread that, check if the GH cymbals have the same ports as the RB ones, if so it’s worth a try
July 16, 2014 at 7:08 pm #424762The RB2 and RB3 drums are functionally identical as far as I’m aware, so you can attach cymbals to either of them.
From what I understand, Guitar Hero drums can actually be used for Pro Mode using the green cymbal option, but it’s a bit of a kludge solution. The yellow cymbal serves as both the yellow pad and cymbal, while the orange cymbal is mapped as a green cymbal in the game. Just don’t activate the yellow cymbal in the drum settings, otherwise you’ll be looking around for a nonexistent yellow pad to hit, and then you will become sad.

July 16, 2014 at 8:26 pm #424764I think* the RB3 set is the other with an extra port which can be configured for either Double Bass or Hi-Hat pedal? Unless that was RB2 as well.
Either way, personally, if you want a set decent enough for cymbals and good Pro play, I would try an invest in an Ion set (if they even make them anymore). If not, then yeah I’d still get a RB3 one.
As per the cymbals, I would try and get some more realistic ones than the generic ones that Harmonix put out for the set. I tried them once and could only use the green one (since they dropped too many notes and it was less noticeable and punishable on green ).
I get a lot of equipment from there, and they usually have good deals on things. You may have to get a couple 1/4″ cables and 1/4″ to 1/8″ adapters to make things work… but you’ll be a lot happier with the results. You can also usually get a cheap double bass setup from there as well. I’d also advise trying to move away from the Stock RB pedals as well (if you can afford that). I’m not saying you need a realistic hammer pedal, but a Roadie or such will do nice (I’d get at least ONE for your main foot).

Awesome. Ill check it out when I get home. I have the Guitar Hero WT drums. Im pricing around the RB3 drums and they are pretty pricey. I’ve seen up to $300 on ebay. Holy Shitzu. Now that I know the RB2 drums have cymbal ports I might go that route. I have someone on craigslist who is going to email me pics of his set. I hope its not the GH set. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve seen the Ion Drums on ebay as well. They’re pretty pricey. I havent looked for them on craigslist though. Im going to check out the link. My wife is going to hate me if I come home with more plastic instruments!

July 16, 2014 at 9:43 pm #424770300 for the RB3?!?!
I guess I can see because they do not make them anymore… but damn…..
If that’s honestly what they’re going for, you can get Ions for like 350 0_o
