And to support this, am I the only one super taken aback by their new RBN strategy? Namely how they’re not going to playtest content that consumers can later buy beyond the bare minimum? I know they’re working from the edge of their seats on the game in general, but yikes. The bar of quality for RBN was arguably too low even back in its heyday, and that was pretty well-regulated. I shudder to think what the circle of QA is going to look like for this new one.
Don’t worry. I’m sure that will be a breathtakingly original upvote/downvote system for users to rate the quality of the RBN stuff. Pity the poor saps who are the first to purchase, though.
And let’s not forget that with the new Steam Workshop in place, any content that a user is subscribed to can be updated at any time by the publisher. Much like the same that has been done with customs in this community. Errors can still be fixed and revisions pushed out even after its first public release.

That is how it should work. A playtesting environment requires that the playtesters know even more about gaming dynamics than the developers. In a community playtesting environment that is not guaranteed at all. However, if a product or a seller on eBay, Amazon, etc. gets great or bad reviews, buyers can proceed accordingly, based both on the vote itself and the reviews.

For me it is not a hard decision, I have more fun playing RB than any other game. After all these years I still really look forward to rock band night on the weekends. And like you guys I’ve spent a small fortune on consoles, discs, instruments, mics, mic stands, stage kits, etc. I’m hoping the Xbox one is the last console I have to buy just to play the game, I would MUCH rather play on PC. So I hope more people consider a pre-order and this game gets made.
Keeping the content Canadian since 2017!

I don’t see how it can’t be a problem for leaderboards though, would they reset every time a new revision is made? Would each revision maintain its own leaderboard? Would all revisions maintain the same leaderboard, and if so, would they even report the revision number that a score was achieved with?

Apparently 100 people backed between your post yesterday and mine, since I’m officially the 1035th backer. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
I really hope they reach the goal and this gets made. I’m sad my licenses won’t carry over, but understand the issues behind it. I’d love to have RB4PC to see the customs community flourish even more with an officially backed solution and updated official tools, tutorials, etc.
March 6, 2016 at 10:19 pm #464803Have you guys not heard of the new Gaming security ” Denuvo “
Seems hackers are having a very difficult time with it !
By the time Rock Band 4 comes out (Q4), Denuvo will surely be beaten
March 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm #464841Denuvo is an interesting take on DRM, and I personally think it won’t be completely broken anytime soon (As opposed to partial cracking, which is what crack groups are currently doing). That said, I doubt HMX will get enough money to fund the port AND get Denuvo on it, it’s pretty pricey. And on a final tangent, I believe RB3 got partially cracked until the group working on it just stopped (the main belief was a C&D, but noone really knows).

Where did ya hear that? I haven’t seen a single thing about RB3’s encryption.
March 7, 2016 at 7:32 pm #464852Easy to back this. RB4 was both an impressive accomplishment in licensing and something of a letdown for me; a PC version promises another kind of future-proofing that I never thought would happen. I hope their projected budget is realistic for their goals here, because I think the post-release sales outlook is relatively bleak.
March 8, 2016 at 11:07 pm #464949Looking like this has stalled. Been stuck on $300,000 for quite a few days now.
March 10, 2016 at 1:01 pm #465004Unless Alex finds a million bucks underneath his sofa cushions, I don’t see how this is going to meet the goal. $1.2M in 26 days? Ehhh….

And it’s still on $300,000, i’m afraid it will not get to the goal ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
March 15, 2016 at 1:17 am #465315If this doesn’t get the message through to Harmonix that most people are disappointed with RB4 then I don’t know what else will. I did my pledge but not really for the PC version but rather for supporting RBN.

It doesn’t really convey that message, though.
While it’s certainly a factor, Harmonix has essentially crippled themselves w.r.t. RB4 PC support by not being able to port DLC across (which is not something I fault them for). The move to next gen for RB4 was a complete non-starter for many people until DLC porting was confirmed – I know I wasn’t going to jump in and start fresh having purchased all (non-RBN) DLC, and that’s a big issue for me with the PC release.
Granted, since I do have a console version w/ my DLC, and I have the wireless adapter, and resyncing is a pretty zippy process, I could easily back the PC version as my hypothetical “RBN box” (once I get my living room PC) and continue to use the console for regular DLC releases, but… that’s not exactly enough to convince me to double-dip especially when compared with a weak CAD. The modding/customs potential in the future, sure, but why am I spending CAD$70+ *today* for that? The only way I’d back is if the Fig was close to goal and I wanted to make sure it did happen.
I know a of several people who don’t own a past RB title aren’t buying into the PC version because of the middling reviews of the existing product, but most of the interested parties I know own RB on a console of some sort already and have bought a ton of DLC already, and that’s the biggest wall. I don’t know how they’ll overcome it.
Honestly, I really need to hear more about the new RBN before I pull the trigger. How it works, how audition mode works, etc.
March 19, 2016 at 10:51 pm #465631If the PC version doesn’t get funded I sure hope that doesn’t completely debunk the whole Steam workshop RBN gig. Use the Steam workshop to create content and force all of it’s content to be ported to the consoles.
