My Point is Yes I would love to see all my DLC and game disc songs from RB1 , 2 & 3 be able to import and play in RB4 PC version.
But if Harmonix , Steam who ever can’t get it to happen ? It’s not a deal breaker for me personally !
I will still support & purchase RB4 PC if they get the funding. I’ve already gave harmonix $200 of my hard earned money to help them make RB4 PC happen . That was my point Oddbrother.
I think for a lot of people it’s the bigger issue of playing their favorites from those games, on the new platform.
For example Panic Attack happens to be one of my favorite drums songs, and it would be unavailable.
Just my 2 cents.
March 2, 2016 at 7:48 pm #464531I wonder how confident they are about their song encryption…I bet music labels would throw a hissy fit if the stems from RB were decrypted in, like, an hour after being made available as DLC…
If/when this happens…then how the heck does Rock Band remain a commercially viable enterprise for HMX? None of these major labels are going to license music to it if HMX can’t protect the stems from getting out.
March 2, 2016 at 7:53 pm #46453313% of goal after one day. What’s the typical pledge burn rate on these things? Big bumps at the start and towards the very end of the period?
March 2, 2016 at 8:29 pm #464534I let things settle a bit to see if anyone noted something, but I suppose it went unnoticed. Noticed anything peculiar in the wording of the RBN section of the announcement? Something subtle, something relevant to this community.
March 2, 2016 at 8:47 pm #464536Sorry Farottone ,
i wasn’t trying to start a debate about RB4 PC version.
I was simply stating if you have 800 DLC’s & imported RB1, 2 & 3 songs like myself along with a couple thousand custom songs.
How many do you need for RB4 PC ?
Guess I should take a page from my wife’s advice & learn to keep my mouth shut !

Maybe I missed what you’re referring to, but the parts that jumped out at me this morning were:
For those of you who don’t recall, Rock Band Network was a set of tools that allowed you to take your own song audio, add MIDI information, and create song files playable by Rock Band 3, plus server infrastructure to upload those songs to Xbox Live and sell them in Rock Band 3. RBN required a paid membership and a detailed Peer Review process, and the infrastructure took a lot of work on our end to keep up and running… a little too much it turned out, and we had to close it down in 2014 [*sniff!*]But with a PC version being released on Steam much of the infrastructure for adding songs to the game can be done via Steam Workshop, with no fees and less overhead. So we’re updating the authoring tools and documentation to help anyone with a song in their heart (and multi-track audio recordings, and some time….) to create playable Rock Band songs. Then, using Steam Workshop, you can submit those files to us—we’ll do a quick check to make sure they play properly and include music you own, and then put them into the game via the Rock Band 4 in-game store. Steam Workshop makes sure you get your cut of the revenues when they sell. We’re super excited about re-introducing user-generated content into Rock Band in this way, and can’t wait to see what you will do with these tools!March 2, 2016 at 9:42 pm #464543I understand what you’re saying Rushfan, but I do definitely disagree with it. Some of my favorite songs (Black Hole Sun, Been Caught Stealing, Hey Man Nice Shot, Just Like Heaven, The Look, Lazy Eye, just to name a few) wouldn’t be playable. Pearl Jam’s “Ten” album wouldn’t be complete anymore without “Alive” and I really like playing through the entire album sometimes. It may not be a dealbreaker for you, and I understand that, but it sure is for me and a lot of other people.
One of (if not the) biggest reason I don’t already have RB4 is lack of keys and since it won’t be coming with PC, there’s even less of a reason to get it. I can get more on the console version and RBN doesn’t really apply to me so I just don’t care for this venture.
I think the biggest issue is that Harmonix wants $1.5 million for this to happen for us to get less than what we already got on underselling console versions (excluding RBN of course).
As per Farrottone’s argument, yes, many people have wanted a PC version, but back when the game was still relevant. Back when more people were still genuinely interested in rhythm games. Now it’s mostly the community that has stuck with Guitar Hero and Rock Band since the earlier installments. All this negative feedback exists not because of the idea of it happening, but because of how ill-timed it is.
I don’t mean to be so negative, I love Harmonix and all the work they’ve done. Hope it works out.
Edit: Also as far as what I understand, RBN content will be worked with via Steam Workshop and will be essentially free. I’m curious as to how it’ll help us at C3 out. On one hand, people will look to us for guidance, and any songs Harmonix says no to we can host, but because official tools will be available to anyone, it’ll be less of a reason to come to C3.
With that in mind, I do really hope Harmonix does quality control on this. They said they’ll check each song so it sounds like it, but I can only think back to the early 80s when companies like Nintendo did little to no quality control and the entire video game market crashed. Of course it wouldn’t be nearly as dramatic with RB4. I just don’t want to see a bunch of unplayable crap plaguing the RB store.

I don’t follow you. Nobody has to “come to C3” anymore than just coming to the site to download the tools and tutorials. How is that any different than downloading the tools and tutorials from HMX/Steam? Not to mention, that those tools are geared at creating official content, not customs. Even back in RBN days the tools provided by Harmonix for RBN were behind a paywall, but could be easily found online, and they weren’t enough for customs, since you ended up with a RBA file that worked fine for Audition Mode and submitting to HMX, but was useless for customs unless you could convert it. So yeah, I don’t get your point.

This is why I didn’t start making customs until last year. It’s really cool the new system won’t have those fees.

March 2, 2016 at 10:32 pm #464549Well for one, C3 has been making customs since 2013 and those of us who started it have been making customs for long before that. My first customs were in December of 2011, for example. So I don’t know why you waited until 2015

I just remember when they announced RBN thinking “sweet! I can totally make any song I want!” then I noticed the paywall and figured I’d save up and maybe try it out when I felt the passion for doing that. I remember looking into playing the songs and only got as far as “you have to do it in Audition mode” before I was like “meh I’ll look into this later when other people have it figured out”
THEN I quit playing Rock Band much at all ~2011/2012, only dabbling occasionally and never enough to look into RBN Customs…. and then RB4 came out and I couldn’t play my drums, and people on Reddit would occasionally talk about customs. So one day I finally got fed up enough with waiting for an E-kit solution that I decided to jump into playing customs, which I assumed would be much harder than it was…. and the rest is history lol.

I suppose that’s true. Honestly this is just from what I’ve personally experienced. It’s probably completely different. So disregard it. No point.
I guess I’m mostly sore that if this goes through there’s a higher chance that RBN will release songs I want to play on RB3 which means no custom allowed and grr things need to go my way all the time, dammit! :b
March 3, 2016 at 12:01 am #464556i was recieved this message on my mailbox,
finally, how many plataforms is better for the game.
i dont belive it, my dream come true!
Our dream come true, Finally if it all goes well i can maybe play RB4!!
March 3, 2016 at 12:19 am #464560So even if encryption takes lets say, several months or even a year to crack, what’s to stop us from grabbing the audio from the ram as it’s being sent to the game? I know at least one guy who worked at IBM before he went to law school with me who is an expert at doing just this kind of thing – grabbing and modifying content while it’s in transit in memory.
Valve Anti-Cheat. You can do whatever you want – you’ll just never play online again with that Steam account once you get caught.
