true, but this deal was apparently created for console players who want their DLC to carry over to the new platform – at least, that’s how they seem to be framing it. which really just makes this yet another confusing decision from HMX anyway.
They take flak because they can’t “port” DLC from an Xbox to a PS account. Then they allow “porting” of DLC from a console to a PC account, and they take flak. It kinda looks like there’s a tiny bit of bias against them… ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif”>
March 22, 2016 at 8:33 pm #465824I hate how people throw the term “entitled” around these days, but calling “bogus fine print” on something that’s completely common sense distinctly qualifies.Oh but they are. There’s a few choice synonyms but ultimately it’s entitlement. A lot of these communities (especially those whose games offer free DLC/updates…who would’ve thought) think they have the right to choose what does and does not happen with the game and that they’re the only ones whose needs should be met. There’s another game (well, games from the same dev) where the people are like that. “Oh, this update sucks.” “Why didn’t they add this already?” “Why isn’t (developer) adding/removing what I want?”
I have much respect for the devs keeping their cool for all the scruffy-looking nerfherders who think they know how to make a game.

i think the flak comes from having to buy DLC all over again instead of there being a true “port”. inter-console bullshit is definitely an issue, so i get why it can’t really be done, but this still seems in poor taste. i honestly have next to no stake in any of this, as i don’t own RB4 and haven’t backed the campaign, and i obviously have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes, but i’ve been questioning Harmonix’ decisions ever since the initial RB4 announcement.
March 22, 2016 at 9:47 pm #465826Them offering a bulk purchase of the pre-RB4 library for what is possibly a nearly at-cost price point (ie. the amount of the money that goes to the record labels) is about the best they could offer. People were asking them for additional funding tiers after all. Some lower cost tiers couldn’t hurt, maybe they could make a deal with Cockos to offer a tier that included the paid version of Reaper for a discount or something?
March 23, 2016 at 12:47 am #465837The new tier is tempting me to be honest, although I have pretty much everything released pre-rb4 on Xbox and nearly everything pre RB3 minus a few delisted songs plus a few hundred RB3/RB4 DLC on PSN.
Still have no idea how I’m going to handle the PC switch, assuming that it allows customs with no limits, maybe eventually work my way to completion through Steam sales.
March 23, 2016 at 12:58 am #465838If the PC version allowed customs meaning we could convert the 9000 on this sites database into the game that would be killer. The only thing is that the keys and Pro Guitar instruments wouldn’t be playable.

I’m more excited what it would do in terms of the amount of charters. For example, look at the size of RS’s custom community
March 30, 2016 at 11:32 pm #466204Is it possible Harmonix will still work on the PC version even tho it’s not gonna get to it’s planned goal? Even if it takes years to make it
March 30, 2016 at 11:32 pm #466205I can’t find the quote for you now but they said no on Reddit. They made it very clear that if this doesn’t get funded, that’s it for RB4 PC.
Then again, they’ve said a lot of things…
March 31, 2016 at 12:25 pm #4662305 days, a little less than $1M left to go.

Work of any kind is measured in man hours (plus utilities, licenses, materials, whatever). If you need 1,000 man hours to complete a task, it doesn’t matter if you spend one hour a day for 1,000 days or 1,000 man hours in one day, it’s still gonna cost 1,000*hourly price.

True but maybe Harmonix would give it another shot if RB4 popularity picks up. I’m not planning on it given their track record for empty promises. RB3 is still better than RB4 even now…
April 5, 2016 at 12:22 am #466512I’m so mixed on this. On the one hand, I wish it would succeed because the prospect of RB4 being ‘moddable’ (still not sure to what extent HMX meant that) is very exciting. On the other hand, with HMX’s recent history taken into account, it’s pretty clear they’re in a downswing creatively. I bought RB4 (and an XBone) because I was still in the phase where I was willing to give HMX the benefit of the doubt on anything they did because of all the joy they’d given me so far in the franchise. I wanted to support HMX in whatever tiny way I could. Now I think I’ve turned the page, and I just want to support Rock Band. At this point, the best way to do that is through RB3 and customs.
I may still throw some money at this project, even though it looks like it will fail. At least I will have done my part.
April 5, 2016 at 12:46 am #466514I’m pretty bummed because it looks like RBN won’t be happening this year. Just give me e-kit support on the xboxone. I care about e-kit support more than online play.
April 6, 2016 at 3:13 am #466587And there we have it, campaign failed.
