Reaper is crashing when I use Ctrl Z

Nothing has changed in my Reaper setup but all of a sudden it consistently hangs when I use Ctrl Z to undo.

If I use undo from the menus it is fine so far.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? It’s pretty annoying because I use Ctrl Z automatically and lose changes because I don’t save for every change that I make to a project …

For me it will crash a lot on Ctrl Z, but not all the time. I just try and make sure I click Save before doing a Ctrl Z attempt. It does normally work fine though.

Do you have more than one project tab open? Reaper becomes a lot less stable if you do, and that shows the most in its tendency to crash when hitting Ctrl-Z.

Multiple tabs, even after you’ve closed all but one, will mess it up. However, the problem of CTRL+Z went away for me when I switched to Windows 10.

I hit ctrl + z often enough (esp on vocals) that I’ve bound it to one of my extra mouse buttons so I don’t have to take my thumb off the alt (scrubbing) key.

Yes, I have noticed this since I have had multiple project tabs open – so that looks like the cause!

I’ll try not to do that too much from now on, thanks guys!

It happens to me moderately frequently if I have to use undo, and I almost never work with multiple tabs.

However, I know my problem is related to a few custom macros that I created which I use constantly. If the stars line up when using them, they don’t play nice with undo. I’ve noted that using undo around time signature and tempo mapping stuff can cause errors. Always his save every few minutes while tempo mapping in my experience. If you have to make a change to the tempo/TS mid-charting, save a backup before and quicksave after…. might be overkill but can never be too save. Early on in my charted days, I’ve royally ****ed up projects making changes that caused issues.

Back to working with a single project tab and no crashes so far! <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
