Main issue: Some pro guitar/bass upgrades show up, but no pro keys or harmonies upgrades show up

    Details:

I’m only looking at pro guitar/keys upgrades, not harmonies. I have the rars

    RBHP_Pack_OptionKeys_140627.rar

    and

    RBHP_Pack_OptionProGB_140425.rar

    From the official page.

I used the packager, the application all show things like:

    Adding boulevardof to custom package.

Successfully added boulevardof_plus.mid to custom package.

    (some say

WARN: Unable to locate songs.dta in C:UsersmaxTech StuffRB customsrbhpinputbackinthesaddle. Is this only a pro drums/guitar upgrade only?

but I am only interesting in pro guitar/bass/keys upgrades, so this shouldn’t be a problem)

    At the bottom, it says

Rock Band: Harmonies Project Custom Upgrades Compiled Successfully!

    41 Upgrades Packaged.

I injected this into my USB stick using party buffalo then moved it onto my hard drive. I deleted the cache, then booted RB3 and let the cache rebuild. Then I went and deleted the 128KB rock band harmonies file (instead of the bigger 3 MB one), I believe the smaller one is the dummy. Then I moved the profile, big 3MB file, and cache onto the internal memory, removed the USB stick, reset console, signed in to the profile I was using, and went back ingame. Some upgrades show up, but some don’t. The account I am using to build the caches is a local offline account, but I am keeping my main account logged in a second controller all the time because it as bought some DLC on another xbox (so it has to be online for them to work. It’s like 800 songs and I’d have to re-DL each one in order to do a liscence transfer so I haven’t done it yet, as I’ve just been able to be online anyway).

Next I am going to try moving the profile etc onto the console after it rebuilds the cache with the 1 file (the harmonies project) but before rebuilding the “big” time (with all the DLC)… maybe that’ll work. It takes about 40 minutes to rebuild the cache though, so I”ll report in when that’s done…

I am using my regular online account on my HDD while connected to XBL, so TU5 is implemented.

For reference, the songs that work and don’t work: (in code because wall of text)

    Upgrade shows up:
Back In The Saddle - Guitar/Bass
Buddy Holly - Guitar/Bass (but not pro keys, which I think is supposed to be there)
    Crash (from lego) - Guitar/Bass
Detroit Rock City (guitar, bass show up, but harmonies doesn't at a certain point; see the description for All the Small things)
    Don't Fear The Reaper - Guitar/Bass
    Hammerhead - Guitar/Bass
    Holiday in Cambodia - Guitar/Bass
    I Was Wrong - Guitar/Bass
    Just WHat I needed - Guitar/Bass
Nine In The Afternoon - Guitar/Bass (but no keys)
One Way Or Another - Guitar/Bass
    Rio - Guitar/Bass
    Round and Round - Guitar/Bass
    She Sells Sanctuary - Guitar/Bass
    Song 2 - Guitar/Bass
    Suddenly I See - Guitar/Bass
    Uncontrollable Urge - GUitar/Bass
    Walking on Sunshine - Guitar/Bass
    Walk This Way - Guitar/Bass
We Got The Beat - Guitar/Bass
    Whie Rabbit - Guitar/Bass

None of the upgrade(s) show up: (all should have either pro guitar/bass or pro keys, maybe both... some might be supposed to have harmonies, but none have them show up, and that's not my main focus)
All The Small Things - When I reach step F of the instructions (when the USB stick is installed but not the internal HDD with all the songs), I check the song list (nothing loads, as expected, because the HDD isn't in, but I see things on the list), I see this song with Harmonies showing up, but no pro guitar/bass. A similar thing happens with Detroit rock city; pro guitar, pro bass, and harmonies all show up in step F, but only pro g/b show up after I rebuild the cache. This may be the case with some other ones too, I didn't check each individually at this step
    Boulevard of Broken Dreams
    Bounce
    Burn You Down
    Check Yes Juliet
    Clint Eastwood
    Cool For Cats
    Critical Acclaim
Dammit (the official pro guitar/bass is still there, but no keys, which is what I think the upgrade is)
    Dig
    Don't Stop Believing
    Get Ready 2 Rokk
    I'm Gone I'm Going
    Less Talk More Rokk
    Move Along
    Panic Attack
    Summer of 69
    The Final Countdown
    The Trees
    Tragic Kingdom
    WHere'd You Go?

Follow up post: I know that keys and harmonies requires “tricking the cache”, but I’ve followed the instructions as best I could and they still aren’t showing up. I went through the entire process twice

For one thing, per your description, you’re not following the full set of steps which is going to impact your harmonies/pro keys upgrades. Since you’ve got a broad understanding of the guide and most of the motions, here’s a ‘shortened’ list.

      1. Build RBHP dummy and upgrade packages and put on a USB.

      2. Remove DLC-to-be-upgraded from your environment (e.g. disconnect the hard drive).

      3. Plug in USB stick w/ dummy and upgrade packages.

      4. Boot game, let cache build. Check to see if keys/harmonies/etc. exist.

      5. Power down Xbox, re-introduce DLC (e.g. reconnect the hard drive).

      6. Boot game, let cache build again. Check to see if keys/harmonies/etc. still exist.

      7. Quit to Dashboard, go to System Settings > Storage.

      8. Delete dummy file.

      9. Boot game, play.

The steps in bold seem to be skipped, which means the cache isn’t being tricked at all.

For another thing, RBHP upgrades do not play nicely with official or other custom pro guitar upgrades. A good example being Dammit — the game will crash if you have the RBHP keys and official pro guitar upgrade in your environment at the same time (it didn’t in your case because the cache did not appear to be being tricked). You have to merge the files in order for it to work.

I think I did those things but just poorly explained it in my first post. Regardless, I’ll try it again.

On the topic of things like Dammit, will it freeze as soon as the song list loads, or only if I actually select that song?

For now I”ll remove it from my dummy/upgrade file until I get the things to work at all, then figure it out

      #423677

      Trying again.

      I got to work.

This is how I got it to work (see in the code). The difference is that the first time, my order was:

Build 2 unit cache on USB, then move that cache from USB to HDD, then build entire cache. At some point the harmonies dissappeared.

The time I got it to work, what I did was:

Build 2 unit cache on USB, then build big cache on USB, then move it to HDD.

      1. Moving my main XBL profile (the one that owns the DLC) from HDD to USB. I'm also moving a custom from a different USB to the USB I am using just so the folder will be there
      2. Turn off xbox, remove HDD and both USBs (the customs USB stays disconnected).
      3. Use party buffalo to inject dummy and upgrade into proper location and delete that custom I put there
      4. Put USB into console, log in to gamertag, (at this point it forced me to download a 360 system update since my HDD wasn't in and my main gamertag is XBL, but this shouldn't matter), then boot RB3 (it forced me to download TU5, but that should be fine for this, as it's pro upgrades not customs) to let it build the small cache (2/2 loaded as expected). I enter the song list at this point. A few song statuses:
      - All the Small Things: Album art loads, harmonies shows up (no pro guitar/bass... I think this was in the pro guitar/bass .rar?)
      - Bounce - Harmonies and keys show up, no art
      - Buddy Holly - Art, Pro G/B, and Harmonies show up
      etc etc. Basically, expected behavior.
      5. I turn off 360. I put the HDD back in and turn console back on. I sign in to my gamertag. I delete the cache on the hard drive (not the small one on the US:cool:. I boot the game, leaving the profile and new 2-item cache on USB for now. The game asks me which save file to use (becuase it made a new one on the USB when I made the new cache), I choose the one on the internal memory. Then the cache building begins...
      ~1043 items later~
      6. I go into song list. I'm checking the songs I checked previously:
All the Small Things - Same as Before, no audio loads (due to dummy, I think?)
Bounce - Same as before, still no art, but keys/harmonies show up, no audio loads
Buddy Holly - Same, no audio
      7. I go to dashboard. I delete the dummy (124 kb, not 3 mb). I go back to game and check those songs again. Again I select the save file from the internal HDD instead of USB.
All the Small Things - Harmonies still there, audio loads. Same for the others. I didn't actually try to play a song, but I'm sure at this point it would have played
      8. I move the 3mb harmonies package, cache and profile from the USB to the HDD. I turn off console and remove USB, restart, sign into profile (which is now on HDD), go into game. Everything seems fine.

Output of package creator (dammit has been removed, I believe that is the only other one of these songs with official pro guitar… hopefully I didn’t miss one)

I do think that has been an issue in the past, now that you mention it — the cache shouldn’t be touched until the entire process is ‘complete’. It falls into the ‘weird and I can’t explain it’ category of sometimes needing the same profile or same TU on a drive but not always.

It is honestly tough for me to get a checklist that applies to every layout/setup since a lot of people array their files in different ways/places, but that’s definitely one I ran into once before.

        #423704

Yeah. Considering computers run on logic, they sure are tempermental.
