RB3 Skin for RBN Preview
Hey! I made this skin because I didn’t like the curved neck of RBN Preview, seeing as the notes are rendered as if it were a flat neck, and I decided to make it look more like RB3 while I was there.
This changes the graphics for the background, the Guitar/Bass/Keys neck, the Drums neck, and all notes.
Installation
To install, find your Reaper installation directory,
(usually “C:Program Files (x86)REAPER” or “C:Program Files REAPER”)
then navigate to Plugins folder, then FX, and extract the contents of the RB3 folder from the .RAR into the rbprev folder, overwriting the duplicates.
The .RAR comes with a backup of the original graphics if you want to go back, or if you want the old background.

May 23, 2015 at 9:28 pm #446165I really like this. Overall it looks really nice. Personally I’d prefer the square notes to be a bit longer at the top, but look much better than the stock ones. Why did you just rip the cymbals from a low-quality video though?
Here are some similarly-styled cymbals that look much cleaner if you’d like. And even a C3 background out of preference.
There isn’t one right way to do the cymbals, I think.
Here is how they look like up close in the Wii version, which is probably the ugliest version of the notes, which is still different from the Xbox version and certainly different from the stock ones. The actual texture looks like this, but it probably isn’t as useful.
May 24, 2015 at 10:17 am #446212I grabbed the cymbals from a 1080p screenshot, because I couldn’t make something that looked similar enough.
I couldn’t get the colours/angles just right, and I think it doesn’t matter too much that it’s not perfectly clean because RBN Preview renders things in a pretty janky way.
It’s also the reason why I didn’t make new note tails or anything, because they looked just as weird as the standard ones.
Those ‘cleaner’ cymbals, and C3 background look nice though, you should provide a link for people if they want them. (The link you posted is just a link to the Wii screenshot ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />)

Great work though.
May 24, 2015 at 11:20 pm #446270So just noticed this, any reason why the guitar track doesn’t have the borders on the side like the drum track?
As for the backgrounds, I’ve been using these. Personally like the 2nd option more
May 25, 2015 at 12:15 am #446275The reason the guitar track doesn’t have a border, it’s because the guitar track is rendered at a slightly wider angle than the drum track.
(The standard neck has notes rendered on top of the border.)
When I made a neck with a wider border, the bottom corners got clipped off, so I just decided to leave them out for guitar.
In hindsight, maybe I should have taken them off for drums too so they were even, but meh ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
June 10, 2015 at 2:45 am #447608This looks great! Are you possibly able to make one of these for pro keys?

June 10, 2015 at 6:52 am #447615To get Pro Keys to work you’d need to completely re-write the entire VSTi which is way outside the scope of this project. This skin required no coding whatsoever, I just replaced some graphical files.

July 6, 2016 at 9:14 pm #471668Wow, this is awesome, I was just looking t changing the graphics files in there myself, it looks so much better. Thank you ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
Do you mind if I ask how you did it? I use GIMP and I’m assuming you started out with a blank black square, then added the details and finally used a perspective/skew tool to give it the… well perspective ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
I still really want to have a go at making my own fretboards and note effects, maybe this could be an extra thing at C3 haha
Any help or info on the process you used would be much appreciated man.
