While converting a bunch of songs to RB4, I realized that RB4’s engine didn’t handle quick gapless pitch change as gracefully as RB3. It will look really weird in some case, and often (not always) crash the game. So if people want to “future proof” their song, avoiding gapless pitch shift is a step in the right direction. Often just a 1/64th gap on each side will be enough to prevent the ugly backtracking tube and the crash.

    Here how it was authored

I’m glad I decided to avoid gapless notes in all my charts already, and as the docs say:

      • Never place two vocal notes right next to each other with no space between them. This causes separate syllables of the same pitch to look like one tube, and it also causes slides not to work properly.

Been fixing a bunch of Avenged Sevenfold so they stop crashing on PS4, just hope it’s not too common of an occurrence in other band/author/songs

It’s most likely not the fact that it’s crashing because of the tube spacing, but most likely because you’re playing a custom with three vocal parts. LibForge can’t really run harmonies well right now, and it’s a known issue with the converter. Have you tried running the custom on solo vocals and see if it crashes?

Yes, they do crash on solo. It’s the quick no-gap pitch shift that is the culprit, since I fixed them all by manually adding gap in reaper. Haven’t really seen problem with harmony, but then I don’t really know what these songs are supposed to look like on RB3, but then I only tested a 100-ish out of the, let say, multiple thousands song I converted.

The crash happens on song with no harmony, with 2 part harmony, 3 part. As long as the part you are playing has a no-gap quick pitch change, usually back in forth like in my picture. Downward. Never seen it crash on an upward only no-gap pitch shift (like the “a-” in the picture)

Also keep in mind, that it’s not guaranteed that it will crash if you have one of those in your song. Sometime, even on the same song, without modifying it, it will crash the first time you play it, but won’t the second time. Let’s just say it was a pain to figure out what was causing the crash, until I encountered the song I took the picture of, that was pretty obvious.
