My apologies if something like this has been discussed or is otherwise accessible, I am new to this.

 

I’m wondering how difficult it is to make customs for vocals only that’s not pitched, ideally with the ability to turn track vocals off (multitrack?). What I’m getting at, is that I would like to make essentially karaoke tracks for Rock Band, but without any experience, I’m not sure if it’s worth the time investment.

 

There are probably easier ways to do this, maybe I’m too attached to the Rock Band interface? I’m thinking, if everyone playing just wants to sing, I could just pop in a flash drive with more songs on it that does not include instruments.

I’m assuming that you want to make a vocals-only custom. Easy enough. Assuming you know the resources you need to author and whatnot, just chart vocals only and compile that. Make sure to add “#” at the end of every syllable to make it a talkie. If you want to turn off vocals, you don’t necessarily need multitracks, but at least an instrumental and acapella.

You absolutely could make karaoke songs for Rock Band 3, but you would indeed need multi-tracks in order to silence the vocals, or you’d have to use instrumental versions of the song without any vocals in the source audio.
